The All Star Game voting is always stupid but for some reason the Dodgers' nomination for LF is... Andre Ethier. Ethier has yet to appear in a game for the Dodgers this year, and has not even resumed baseball activities. He will be lucky to come off the DL before the ASG. Someone must really hate Andrew Toles.

Checking out the ballot. Players listed with no stats so far this year:

1B - Luis Valbuena
SS - Matt Duffy
3B - Adrian Beltre
OF - JD Martinez, Colby Rasmus, Jorge Soler, Andre Ethier

Freeman made comments saying the Miller Park was like a little league field because it had poor lighting and he felt he could never see the ball well. Which is pretty funny.

Bryant said the exact same thing in a recent interview. They asked his favorite and least favorite parks to hit in and he said Miller Park was his least favorite because the lights are really dim and it's hard to see the ball. He said Petco was his favorite (other than Wrigley) because they have super bright lights, which makes it really easy to see the ball. It's funny because Miller Park is generally seen as a hitter's park and Petco as a pitcher's park.

Yes, I can totally see how one offhand comment blown out of proportion by a bored hometown press makes one equivalent to a pissy chronically alcoholic xenophobic rear end in a top hat.

"I mean, I've had maybe one or two good series here out of six," he said. "But I can hardly see the ball. I think it was a ball in the first (inning), double play, and I almost missed it because I couldn't see the ball until it got on me. It's just dark. … And they shot off those fireworks (before the Brewers' first inning) and the fog just got trapped in there, it was hard to see. I even asked all their guys, I said I don't know how you guys play in here. I would not be good here.

“I'm just glad it's three games and out. I don't see the ball well, at all. I don't understand that (lighting problem). Arizona's (lighting in retractable dome) is great. I feel like Little League fields are lit better than this. Obviously they have no problem (Freeman laughed) because their guys are hitting. I guess you get used to it. Our lights at SunTrust (Park) are awesome. Turner Field was a little dark."

A lot of the roster choices are pretty bad. The Mets have Jose Reyes on theirs, but no Conforto.

Also I wrote in Gift Ngoepe for NL SS.

I wonder how much better Corey Seager has to be than Addison Russell to overcome the Cubs WS tidal wave of fandom and win the NL SS starting spot.

Ahh, Luis Valbuena, starting 1B for the Angels. Who could've forgotten all those memorable plays he's made.

You can basically add Ian Desmond to the list, he has 1 game played this year (and it wasn't at 1st base).

If the pre-world series fandom was any indication from last year, I'm pretty sure that every non-Cub NL team will get exactly one player each and Cubs will fill out the rest. Hope you're looking forward to Brian Duensing coming in for mop-up duty after John Lackey gives up 9 first inning homers.

11 pitches, three hit batters, 1 walk since Tony Perez was having none of it, and 1 run. Pulled after missing Bench twice.

Something oddly funny to me about hitting Reds on May Day though. Save it for the bourgeoisie, comrade.

Estrada became an ace the moment he left the pitching black hole of Milwaukee. Their staff just seems to ruin pitchers.

I like the part in Fastball where a physicist explains why it's impossible for a fastball to actually rise and the perception comes from a disconnect between the balls actual speed and what the brain expects it to be, then it cuts back to Bryce Harper who goes "nah man it rises, I dun see it. Maybe those eggheads should step in a batter's box."

Legitimately the best part of the movie. Or maybe it's the part where Walter Johnson throws like 94 in his church clothes with no warm up.

n: O's and Boston's bad blood just got simmering again as Baltimore's Bundy tags Betts with a HBP. There's a lot of stinkeye coming from the Boston dugout and the on-air guys say it's not going to take much more to clear the benches.

v: this kind of aggro between two rivals gives a certain undeniable spicy attraction to the play and I loving hate to think a player could get injured but I'm fascinated at the same I can't help myself.

(I don't remember what season it was but when Tampa and the Sox cleared their benches at each other at the slightest provocation it certainly was a reason to watch them play. Not a good reason, but...and below is an unforgettable illustration of how much they hated each other )
