Yeah good point, from a purely statistical standpoint it's better for both the defender and hitter if the infield has bad range.

I wouldn't be opposed to just counting reaching base on an error as a hit, I mean that's basically what happens already when an outfielder misses a fly out.

Another gripe is fielders choice or fielders choice with an error.

Man on 1st and a ground ball is hit to 3B, the fielder throws to second for the DP but it's a bad throw and both runners reach. This hurts the hitter and is an error which I think is a bad call. Or let's say they get the out at second but had 3B tried to throw out the hitter at first instead of second it would have been a difficult play with no clear outcome I think the hitter should be rewarded with a hit instead of a FC.

Fielders Choice is fine in most cases, but there are times where the only play is to get the lead runner in which case the hitter gets no credit where as if there was no lead runner they would have had a hit.

This all circles back to my complaint about Errors in the first place, they usually punish someone incorrectly. If that had been scored an error it would have taken away a game winning hit/sac from Pujols on what was a well hit ball.

It's more a reflection on the culture that still exists in baseball dugouts/locker rooms and I'm sure it's even worse in the minors. You would think by now people would have deleted it from their vocabulary as you mentioned you still hear it from time to time. I've heard it on occasion in my rec league once or twice.

It's something that should be called out regardless if the player specifically meant to be homophobic or not. It's the only way the whole locker room culture will change, if guys feel they will be scrutinized for saying that kinda stuff.
