A lot of people totally buck against the Working World in their mid-20s. As the reality of post-college life sets in, they have a breakdown and quit their jobs for a year or two, generally go somewhere in Asia for a few months, and then come back without missing a beat.

Oh boy, this one is probably going to produce a "my parents screwed me over" thread in a year or two. https://www.reddit.com/r/personalfinance/comments/69vouz/parents_want_to_use_my_credit_for_a_home_mortgage/ Parents want to use my credit for a home mortgage - what can I do? quote:My parents are both financially responsible but for personal reasons, don't have the credit they need to buy a house of decent size. They both work tons, they splurge a bit during holidays, but as far as I know aren't in debt. They haven't worked on their credit as much as I have, so they want to use my credit to finance a home mortgage for a better home.

Zo posted:yeah, it turns out, actually, that when rich people spend within their means, it's not bwm even if it's expensive and stupid Lol this isn't true at all. Spending more than you can afford is but one of the forms of Bad With Money. The four pillars of BWM are 1. Spending beyond your means 2. Expensive and/or stupid 3. Family money matters 4. Horse weddings paid with truck equity

Personal Anecdote I am so sorry At my old company, I sat in on an interview where the hiring manager asked the female applicant, "This job probably won't be worth it to you if you are going to take any significant time off in your first 3 years. Do you plan on having kids any time soon? " Applicant: "I... don't think you're supposed to ask that kind of question." Manager: "I did, though. Do you have an answer?" Applicant: "I don't want to answer that" He did not hire her. Eye opening though to see how the law doesn't actually do poo poo when people can just do whatever they want anyway.

ate all the Oreos posted:Why the gently caress didn't you slap him and tell HR immediately HR was in the interview room. This was a company where HR's job is to protect the company itself from existing, former, and potential employees. Someone taking maternity leave would have inconvenienced the company and cost it money, so they were totally on board with this. monster on a stick posted:Did she contact a discrimination attorney? She was told "the position has been filled by a more qualified candidate" which was true. If she had sued, they would have denied saying it, and their hire was a pro pick so there was no reason to suspect she was passed over because she was a woman or wanted to have kids. This kind of "Company first, the law second" was one of many reasons that I left the job. I was constantly stressed that she would sue and my employer would ask me to lie.

Yeah... they didn't interview many women. This girl probably got in by accident with a gender/race neutral name on her resume.

monster on a stick posted:Even better. Discrimination attorneys love that stuff, the only thing worse than rejecting all the women after an interview is obviously rejecting them based on their name. I always assumed they were untouchable for this. How would you prove that they received applications from a diverse pool of genders/races but only considered white males? If they were sued would they have to produce all the applications they received? And then produce the applications that they moved forward with? What would be the metric used to determine guilt? Indicating that 30% of the applications were female but the interviews were only 10% female?

Tiny Brontosaurus posted:it would be pretty cut-and-dried if the victim had the means to pursue it and wouldn't face repercussions for doing so. Unfortunately that's not the world we live in. Freaking bingo on that part. The whole thing made me extra sick because I knew, if they asked me to lie or hold my tongue, I'd do it, because I needed the job.

There's OP rules about "getting the last word" and "being mean" but I can tell that the parties involved here have one of two mindsets 1. Fighting the systematic oppression of protected classes 2. Fighting the assertion that they're racist sexist homophobic rapists Those are big issues that certainly trump the rules, but this is a thread about being bad with money, yo. I didn't see anything that really justified either mindset, it looked more like two people gradually got more annoyed with each other until they became The Ultimate Evil in each other's eyesl. Maybe just take a break from the thread. My buddy spends $40 a day on delivery food. Tee hee!

You could literally go out to eat at a local deli or chinese place for every single meal and it would cost less than that. I tried TriFecta! It was so unbelievably bad I posted some poo poo on their facebook page and their ceo apologized. 11 dollars a meal and it was horrid in taste and texture. Significantly less pleasant than a goddamn lean cuisine. They're like 320 calories a pop too, and they proudly say "eat 3 a day for full nutrition!!"

Alright here's a food/money question - how the gently caress do those $1/day food budget rice and bean people eat any FRUIT? My coworker is super smug about how he and his wife spend less than $150 a month on food and I have no clue how you would ever consume anything fruit-like on that budget.

I know that’s not really what you’re doing, but I work in nonprofits and the most irritating thing ever is people thinking payroll is a completely illegitimate way for a nonprofit to spend funds. This guy fuckin' gets it Payroll is a good expense and it attracts talent and competency. Education and healthcare typically have about 50% of their revenue go to payroll.
