I was surprised at how high the "about 10% of requests for free stays are worth looking into" quote from the Maldives manager was. It's a gold rush like any new advertising medium. They're already getting wise to Bot Followers, it looks like! KingSlime posted:At least it leaves plenty of bread for us boring nerds with "technical skills" or "the ability to do poo poo that requires some degree or effort" or whatever you want to call this mythical X FACTOR For as long as there have been attractive people, there has been a legitimate career in "using [Product] while being attractive". Their followers aren't really getting scammed, either. People get genuine happiness from using the same brands or staying at the same hotels as their idols. Call it dumb if you want, but sometimes people just want to convert some $$$ to happiness without too much thought.

Bragging about your kid is literally the same as bragging about yourself. And saying "my kid's even more talented than I am!!" just makes it worse. BOOOOOOO! But fine, since you brought her up, what's the deal with your hot daughter? Gym/fitness influencer or more like bathrobe in a fancy hotel room #blessed?

I was about to call bologna and say I'd buy 2,700 followers for $150 if you could send me a link, but it's even CHEAPER than that?! Costs jump up to those prices per month if you want them to be real and engage with your content.

Gambling is pure entertainment so I don't sweat the Expected Loss Per Hour metric of a game, but I can't imagine wanting to play Roulette. Roulette is a pure, slow transferring of your money to the house without even really DOING anything. Craps is fun, social/interactive, and actually has the best odds in a casino. Blackjack is also acceptable. (but all Casino Games are BWM)

I think it's less Bad American Financial Savvy and more that it's a dumb way to describe the amount you're paying for a house. You're paying $120k in today dollars and ~$705,000 in today-through-30-year-from-now dollars. Your final $2,292 payment is worth $691 today. It doesn't account for how much less valuable Payment 360 is compared to Payment 1, and it doesn't account for the offset from mortgage interest deductions.

I don't know the significance of red text! Here's an example of how easily the uber rich can do whatever the hell they want. Take this piece of of the municipal code we worked to pass "For projects with ten (10) or more units, affordable housing units shall be provided as follows: 1. Rental units. Twenty (20) percent designated as affordable at the low-income level or fifteen (15) percent designated as affordable at the very-low income level." I wonder how well this has been doing, given Los Altos' recent boom in multiple-family housing. Computer, status report! Los Altos Planning Committee Website posted:As of June 2016, the City has 105 affordable multiple-family units, which includes 32 rental units God dammit

Post that immortal Calvin and Hobbs comic where Hobbs asks how the comic books (baseball cards?) will be valuable if every kid is stuffing tons of them in the attic. "we're all counting on the other kids' moms to throw them out" I will say that the several hundreds of dollars of Legos that I had growing up have basically held their value if not gone up, but I still think having less stuff to lug around for 32 years would have been better.

That is the very topic at hand in D&D's Climate Change thread, right this moment! Don't read it though. Someone is currently being shamed for getting their wife pregnant instead of adopting, and a conversation about the $50,000 "adoption fee" has turned in to pure vitriol over the cost to raise a child.
