Both of them are kind of demonstrating by this that they might be powerful, but they're also locked into patterns of behaviour, just like the old gods. Media doesn't think there's anyone she can't make love her, and the Kid can't resist the opportunity to show off how much better and smarter and more powerful he is, even when all it achieves is tipping his hand early.
