Is it idiotic? Might one not expect a book that is all about names and symbolism to be a bit deeper than shadow = black dude?

It weirded me out that they switched to English for the audience's benefit after a few sentences. I know you can't have extended subtitled scenes on an American show... but you normally can't have gay sex scenes either.
