Valid. I don't think I'd be able to recognize most of the Item Get screens though, he was surprised when I told him where it came from. Hokay. With Sonic Mania in motion now, and all the crazy channel boosting that was going on at the time out of the way, I can get us back on track for good. That description just makes me think of Mack from Super Mario RPG. I still can't decide if Mack is the little puppet-looking dude standing on the knifey pogo stick, or if Mack IS the knifey pogo stick and the thing that looks like a puppet-looking dude is just decoration... I've once again let things fall behind, so we're getting Chapter 9 moving and... I think the end of this is gonna be interesting to you folks. "You cannot stop me, X! I fight for the future! THE FUTURE WHERE I KILL YOU!" At this point I seriously just want to blame memes. Reploids just got the idea that if they killed enough humans something good would happen, and it's not going away.

See, that's the thing, this is another one of those games where the bad guys are not quite entirely necessarily Mavericks (at least at first?), but the harsh black-and-white morality comes into play and boom, they're genocidal terrorists. Right? "Oh, you wanna regroup and grind a little before you fight? Hope you're cool with fighting Scarface again! ...oh, you're not? That's okay, you can just fight Epsilon at half-strength forever!" What a bunch of assholes. So, we tried to keep this week going as far as videos, but both John and I were out of the state over the weekend, and wound up needing to take a breather upon our return, so we're two episodes behind. We're gonna get things started again on Monday with Part 65, then put out an extra on Saturday and Sunday each to make up for the missing two. This week, we finally kick that fucker Epsilon's rear end (barely barely barely, oh god), and see the full fury of... the Boss Rush. From an RPG perspective, I liked the Lavos boss rush. Didn't change the stats of pretty much everything and you tore it up from the floor up with your endgame gear and moves. This does not look to be that. Or the Mario RPG "boss rush" where the end dungeon was full of mass-production versions of the previous big bosses.

Both of those were a lot of fun -- the Chrono Trigger one since you got to just tear the old bosses to shreds, and the Super Mario RPG one since you got to beat up on the copies, some of which were leveled up, some of which were leveled down (mostly the later ones). This game is a lot less forgiving, since the boss rush features wildly leveled-up dudes. Except (thank gently caress) this game only has you go up against the first five boss battles again, keeping the Cadre out of it completely. Doesn't mean they aren't still going to be trouble (though if I'm honest, Wild Jango II was the hardest of the five). Not yet, though we did see it at PAX a year or two ago and it looked fantastic. Definitely looking forward to it, we deserve at least a good Mega Man-like if nothing else. So surprise, surprise! It's a Mega Man RPG, which means there's a postgame. I've broken down the postgame into five missions: Lagrano Ruins, the Eternal Forest, Melda Ore Plant, Tianna Camp, and Floor B999. That order gives us the most flexibility and the most opportunity to grind and re-equip ourselves before the last two, whose bosses promise to be... difficult. Alright, so from here on out, the Postgame is gonna take a pretty wild turn in the "hard as poo poo" department. First off, we have to get X and Zero's alternate (read: much loving better) Hyper Mode transformations for us to even have a prayer. Postgame Part 4: "This Meltdown Looks Operable" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eVqVXh0GC-w Postgame Part 5: "I Am Science" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TvcE-Bg2lSI And then, it's off to fight the final bosses of the postgame: The Ninetails Clan. First up is Onetail, and... it's a little loving tough. Postgame Part 6: "Talking Up This Episode & Nothing Actually Happens" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SviyDvajsAs Postgame Part 7: "A Reasonable Amount of Damage" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jXJ3PxQQWgw

So if anyone out there is unfamiliar, the Tails Clan is a series of nine successive battles with a pile of Reploids that have unusual (and usually deeply frustrating) battle tactics that make for tricky business. Onetail will heal, Fivetails will call for backup copies of himself, Sixtails has a ten-turn limit before he makes himself essentially invincible. There's a lot of poo poo going on in here. But over time, these battles seem to be getting slightly easier... somehow I feel the final battle won't be so generous. I was SO NOT expecting to be able to manage to take Ninetails down on my first try, holy poo poo. But with that, it looks like this will be the end of this thread for a little while, as we're going to be taking on Mega Man Zero 3 before we come back to close out the trilogy with Mega Man X8. The good news is X8 is pretty much the best X game since at least X4, in my opinion anyway. The bad news is that Zero 3 is pretty much the hardest game in its subseries, so... we might be a while. If you're having controller issues try the PC port, unlike every other capcom port from that era it actually works just fine on more modern systems and you can just joy2key a controller if it doesn't already pick up on it

Just a heads up but if you're going to be playing as X in this game for any length of time you HAVE to start using the charge shot, there are some enemies (and a couple bosses) in this game that cannot be hurt unless you guard break them first. Also go back to the intro stage after you beat it, there's a Dr. Light capsule hidden behind a door that was previously inaccessible.

Been watching the recent episodes and I feel they have forgotten how to play X. The fact they are not using the super useful navigator Pallet, and have yet to check out the R&D lab is making me scared for them. (They also need to try getting use to the Double attack so they can use it on bosses.) The fact they managed to snatch defeat from the Jaws of victory with Pandamonium worries me as well.

Yeah, but don't worry too much about always trying to use the Double Attack (you could have easily killed Bamboo Pandemonium on your second try fighting him). Also be sure to use the shop from time to time as it's the only way you can get Sub Tanks, Heart Tanks, extra lives, etc. If you switch to your partner after getting hit your previous character can gradually recover health, if you go back to the intro stage there's a Dr. Light capsule behind a door below where you fought that giant Bee and finally, as I've said before, if you're going to play as X then CHARGING IS MANDATORY IN THIS GAME.
