Another tip: Every character can air dash by default (just like they could in X7 and how Zero can ever since X5). If you had thought to try that with Zero you could have easily gotten past the spike section on your first go. Also, if you're caught by an enemy attack (like Sunflower's balls), you can get out of it by switching characters (the game literally told you this during the intro stage). I like the weapon get animations. Even if they're a little fast they still do show off the weapon, which is always a good thing to have from a weapon get screen.

I've been bad at updating the thread because I've been going nuts getting videos ready before I leave for my vacation, which is... right now actually! Hello from the air! There'll be updates today and tomorrow, but there is a strong likelihood that we'll be pausing this game for next week since I'll be away (we did record five more episodes, I just didn't get a good chance to edit them, but we shall see, might have a rainy day in the mix). There's no point in saying "Zero got Zenshousuken" or whatever, if I have no idea what it even does. The animations do a great job of getting the point across. Axl's trilobite weapon is the bouncy-crystal thing he was doing. I imagine it richochets off walls and such.

So... we're finishing off the Mavericks as we lead ourselves to the final showdown and... our video hosed up twice. First up was a recording error during the Jakob Orbital Elevator stage, which we didn't catch until midway through saving immediately after the battle. So while we can show off the stage, the boss fight is gone. :\ The second fuckup was right before the final goddamn boss. The good news is that one's fixable, as I had the wherewithal to save the "Clear Game" data to a different file, so we still have the final stage save kicking around, and will re-record to fill out the missing stuff. Sorry about that, guys. Shouldn't be too delayed, I don't think (though for this week, instead of doing X8 videos Monday-Friday, we're doing Saturday/Sunday both weekends so we have at least one video each day while I'm gone. So you could say the final boss recording was a Paradise Lost?

Sorry to hear things went so wrong for you. I think Squeeze Bomb was the right call against the trilobyte - it crunched his armor and sucked up his bouncy shots, though it doesn't look easy to actually hit him with it since you have to clear the way of crystals. (also I think that crystal power of his can "mine things" out of the ground, like in that suspicious block in the ant stage)

I must have missed the visual cue, there was a lot going on in that battle and between the glowing and the "gravity orb" it all kinda mushed together. MonsterEnvy posted:Man screwing up the final boss recording sucks. As some of the reactions there would have been decent. Thankfully, Ben and Lindsay joined us in the re-recorded chunk, so we get their reactions instead! Mega Man X9 was never even really mentioned, let alone made. But I wonder if maybe they'll pull something crazy for their 30th anniversary...? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GWzmoVDn5T4

The series ended in kind of a terrifying place, honestly? Now we've got Reploids who can just... flip a switch and go psycho. Good lord X must be breaking down right now, since the world is now full of Mavericks that have every option to stop but just choose not to.

Good lord X must be breaking down right now, since the world is now full of Mavericks that have every option to stop but just choose not to. I've been pretty much continuously terrified since X3, where Dr. Doppler is presented as a genius benefactor whose good-guy plan that Sigma disrupted involved mass-broadcast mind control. Then in X4 and X5 half the Mavericks aren't, and in X5 some of them even straight-up point out that the Hunters are a death squad that takes what they want and declares the Reploids they kill along the way retroactively Mavericks and then X and Zero proceed to do exactly that. The later characters who have actually gone Maverick are also so much different from the former ones it's unmistakable that the first four enemies you fight in X5 are not Mavericks. Mighty Number 9 failed to hit a lot of the points the Mega Man games did hit, but it sure as Hell nailed the "what the Hell is wrong with everybody in this universe" note loud and clear.

Isn't the plot of mn9 that someone created programmable matter. And then decided to make some of it sentient and capable of feeling pain?

The part that's relevant is the part I summarize as "In the backstory, Dr. Light set off the Grey Goo Apocalypse and Dr. Wily has been imprisoned for life as a despised terrorist for stopping it. And while that's a late-game reveal, every character, sympathetic and not, treats this state of affairs as normal and obviously just." There's moral ambiguity, and then there's "Are we the baddies, Hans? There are skulls on our uniforms." And that's even without taking into account the reveal that Dr. Light is Dr. Wily's son, but the amount of dysfunction that implies does not appear in the X series.

Are we talking the creators not thinking the implications of their stories through, the creators setting out to say 'poo poo's hosed, yo', or the creators genuinely believing that the 'good' guys are doing the right thing? I mean, given Capcom, I'm inclined to go for option #1, but...
