This is goofy as hell but also demonstrates an alarming level of intelligence. Birds are scary smart, and if it wasn't for us I'd say they have a better chance of evolving into sapience than any other type of animal.

When I was a kid we had a random pigeon move into our garage. He lived there for about a year, my mom is a real softie for animals so she would leave the garage door open a little at the bottom so he could go in and out. One very cold night she was sitting in the living room and heard some commotion at the front door. It was the pigeon, she'd accidentally closed the garage all the way so the little guy got locked out. She told me once she opened the door he very casually strolled in, walked over to where the garage entrance was, and patiently waited for her to let him in.

Now she keeps chickens and I swear she loves those chickens more than she ever did us. Every time I call her it's "the chickens are doing this" and "the chickens are doing that". It's actually pretty endearing.
