Why did she spend money in cali and not wisconsin???

her advisors had a prediction model that showed that she would win the electoral college and she believes in political capital so she shifted money to states that are strongly democratic leaning like california to try to get out the vote there, hoping to have a larger popular vote win to get more political capital so that she'd be able to force republicans to do more of what she wanted.

she also transferred money out of the rust belt to states she thought she could flip like arizona and georgia to try to run up the electoral college numbers too.

the fact that the blacklivesmatter protests/riots seen this summer were showing strong support for prison/police abolition reveals that the organizing work of black/indigenous anarchists in the united states has had a noticeable effect over the last decade.

im not trying to be like "everything will be ok" but we are in fact seeing a real movement form as america gets closer to the cool zone, and that movement seems to be much more influenced by anarchists than marxists at the moment. Things might change as stuff starts to break down further but if the Phillipines, Chiapas and Rojava, and Cuba is taking are any indicator it seems like anti-capitalist/anti-settler colonialism struggle could take a much more bottom-left lens over the next few decades.

Also im trying to engage with the thread in good faith here, I would super recommend reading https://theanarchistlibrary.org/library/anonymous-desert and anything by Lorenzo Kom’boa Ervin

i appreciate that you're engaging in good faith, as you're making some spicy hot takes.

i'd say the actions of the american police are a great example of why states are bad

having a state is a compromise; communists are stuck having states because capital sets the rules and you can't opt out. for this same reason i don't really expect communist states to be perfect by any means.

that's ultimately my take and not this thought slime persons, though.

a state is a tool for the management of class antagonisms. society is split into irreconcilably antagonistic classes, and a state comes to exist as a thing above society due to the need to manage these class conflicts. under capitalism, the bourgeoise are the dominant class and so states take on a bourgeoise class character in how it manages class antagonism, i.e. inherently anti-worker. but if a society were to have the working class as the dominant class, then the state's class character would be used to suppress the bourgeoise from exerting control. since workers don't need capitalists but capitalists need workers, capitalists could become workers in a worker's state, but workers must be an underclass in a capitalist state.

Hodgepodge posted:

so at this point we're keeping around the state to suppress the bourgeoise, who continue to exist as a class because?

no, we're not keeping around the state, we're creating a new state to suppress and eliminate the bourgeoise by converting them into the working class through carrot and stick.

i know you want to abolish the state and let the dominant class rule as they will, but that seems bad imo, as the current dominant class is the bourgeoise.

I don't know the full details, but the "out of Africa" hypothesis does have some competition or recent complicating evidence of some sort. I'll see if I can Google up any substance to it.

There's also a complication in that we weren't even the only human species that we know of. As a person of European decent, I'm one of many people who have Neanderthal ancestry. So were my ancestors from Africa (homo sapiens sapiens) or Europe (homo sapiens neanderthalensis)? The answer is "both."

there's at least 3 species of other humans that homo sapiens interbred with, neanderthal, denisovan, and the so-far unnamed species in subsaharan africa that has no fossil evidence for but a lot of dna evidence for. I don't think that really complicates the out of africa hypothesis at all though, neanderthals and denisovans evolved from hominids that came out of africa as well even
