nah, there's still tonnes of stuff to work on, it's just usually incremental instead of earthshattering stuff since PhDs students aren't wealthy bored dudes who can afford to spend 10 years on one thing anymore. mine and all my friend's were more about refinement of some tiny area instead of trying to cure cancer. postdocs might do more advanced poo poo, but everyone be chasin dat grant money.
