Honest question: what would you say differentiates Hard Rock from plain ol' Rock? Just rock that rocks harder but isn't fast enough to be metal? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ClFUJEWD2L8 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eLEvl_uplUk A pair of favorites from E6: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=78coiD6aYSo https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NqzI4ubuBmU lovely fan AMV, don't care, rules.

A human heart posted:rock is a general term that covers an extremely wide range of things, whereas hard rock is fairly specific. Such as? Te' are an instrumental Japanese post-rock band, but some of their songs are pretty drat hard: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6PIfKNWN1TE First song off their 4th LP https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IWhgbUx4lyA 3rd song off their 5th LP. I just went and uploaded this myself because I couldn't find it, these guys are a pain in the rear end go Google... e: aw the record label smacked down my upload, unfortunate. I'll try Vimeo... A human heart posted:are you asking what the range of things covers or what the specific things are What things would you consider specific to Hard Rock that would differentiate it from just Rock? Came here to talk about new Foo song. I don't think they've put out a completely good album since Color/Shape, but I still enjoy most of their singles. Run does feel like they could have done more with it than the paint-by-numbers quietpartLOUDPARTquietpart structure we got, but for radio candy I'm still glad to hear new stuff from them. The last song I really liked was Rope: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kbpqZT_56Ns

Heavy Metal posted:The beauty of art, yes? All these different interpretations. E6 like stealth became one of my favorite bands. They've smoothed out the rough edges and gotten more synth-y as they've gone on, and fewer of their songs on the last couple of albums have jumped out at me as 'wow this is one of my favorite E6 songs now.' But I also find myself liking just about every song as well. That sounds like damning with faint praise but I give a lot of credit to bands that can consistently release decent material for decades rather than put out one or two great albums then either flame out or start recording crap. I couldn't tell you what my favorite song is off Bitch, Don't Let Me Die! was, the entire album is just nebulously 'pretty good'. Legit looking forward to the split cover/live album in September, then the new studio LP on 10/13 So this entire post isn't just jerking off over E6, what about some stealth hard rock: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YBDluMsYN4c Starts off pretty chill, then guitar solo is fire (E6 also has a cover of this ogod help me). Speaking of guitar solos, my number one all time favorite guitar solo ever is in The River by Gorefest. Gorefest started out as gutteral death metal, then in the late 90s morphed into more chunky hard rock with rough-but-understandable vocals. This song is just OK, but the solo, goddamn dude. INSTRUCTIONS: Listen to the intro, 0:00-0:23, then skip up to 2:50 and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lq80_RomVSo edit: drat, now that I'm listening to them again their last few albums were pretty drat Hard Rock in their own right... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ipthRUYvYtM https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VM1_NEWRWcg Takes No Damage fucked around with this message at 00:39 on Aug 4, 2017 |
