Even if it ends up being !aliens (some weird planetary thing or something) it absolutely should serve as a reminder to us that we have a duty to build a mega-structure of our own, not just so we can be incredibly bad rear end but so that if we eventually go extinct other species will know they don't have to be alone. If they live long enough, one, maybe even two other intelligent species will evolve.
