I don't have a link, but I'm watching NBC Nightly News, and they're covering the Seth Rich story....in the sense that they're talking about Fox having to retract the story and Hannity losing voters. It must be frustrating for alt-righters that their precious conspiracy is making the hated mainstream media, but with a big "this is bullshit and Fox is having to walk it back" caveat.

Now all Chimp has to do is utter some random nonsense made-up word on his Shitter every night, and he's set for the rest of his term! I don't know. I'm still not convinced that Trump's that smart. He strikes me more as a moron (possibly with early onset Alzheimer's) who, by the sheer force of his outsized personality, has managed to fail upwards. I don't know who Jeff Lord is (beyond a Trump sycophant), but he's a moron. He was on Anderson Cooper a few minutes ago, trying to argue with a straight face that Kushner is "just like Robert F. Kennedy" because presidents usually use family members to establish other diplomatic channels. He also essentially argued "B-b-but Obama used a senate aid in his administration!". David Priess was Anderson's other guest, and he shut that down pretty quickly.

I hate to add to a derail, but my favorite sub shops are Which Wich or Firehouse Subs. Once you go to either of those, it's hard to go back to Subway. For something more on topic: Sasse saying that the AHCA won't be coming before the midterms is really encouraging news. I've been so worried that those assholes in the senate were quietly going to ram through a bill while we were distracted by 'covfefe' or some dumb poo poo like that.

Speaking of that racist comic, I caught a little bit of Matt Taibbi being interviewed by C-Span Book TV this afternoon. They had this guy call in that started right off with whining about how "the left" doesn't let him get a word in edgewise, and how he hoped conservatives would get a chance to speak their piece to Taibbi. The kicker was that he started on this mini-tirade about how black and Asian populations are so dangerous and commit so many more of the crimes than whites. He wanted Taibbi to respond to some BS about how the standard of life was better in more homogenous places in Europe, or something like that. Taibbi, to his credit, mostly just shook his head and said that he felt sorry for the guy. I was just surprised (though I know I shouldn't be) that such blatant racism was being spouted on C-Span (albeit from someone calling in).

Don't let the anger and disappointment get to you; use it to hold these people's feet to the fire! They want you to give up and assume nothing matters, because cynicism and apathy is exactly what helps them win. But Trump's numbers are in the mid to high 30 and don't show any evidence of rising (even something like the baseball shooting didn't help him); Mueller's investigation is happening apace; the American people loathe the AHCA and, if reports can be believed, the coalition to vote for that piece of poo poo bill is fractious. Stop giving up so easily. We're still more that a year out from the midterms. That's plenty of time for more of Trump's incriminating tweets evidence of collusion to come out, and for his incompetence to bite him in the rear end. We're rapidly approaching a debt ceiling crisis that there's no evidence that the congress will even be able to address meaningfully. This is far from over, and I'm just saving up that anger so that I can express myself by my ballot in November of 2018.

That's more than a year away, and like every party that has near-total control of the government, the GOP is going to overreach and piss people off. If the AHCA won't do it, the collusion eventually will. I'm reasonably sure that there are HUGE skeletons in Chimp's closet that Mueller will be going over with a fine-tooth comb. Even if nothing much comes of that by 2020, Chimp will be - what - 74? There's already been a lot of chatter in this thread about him showing signs of dementia. But even beyond that, he's a massively unpopular president who probably isn't going to magically become more popular in the next three years. Sure...he has his base, but he's even beginning to piss some of them off, and they were only a fraction of the country anyway. The courts keep rebuking him and the people are increasingly unhappy with the BS he's trying to do. I'm not saying that things aren't bad or that the GOP's capacity for evil should be underestimated, but they're in the same place of the 2009/2010 Dems, and they keep shooting themselves in the foot with the AHCA, quadrupling down on their unquestioned loyalty to a president willing to incriminate himself, etc. I'm not wearing rose-colored glasses, but all things must pass eventually. The GOP's current "governance" is not sustainable beyond '18 or '20.

Republicans can shout "B-b-b-ut Pelosi" as much as they like, but if they continue on their present course, they're not going to be able to pin their lovely health care bill, absence of tax reform, and probable failure on a clean debt ceiling increase on Pelosi and the Dems. They own everything that's been happening since January, and most voters feel the same way. This is why I'm more hopeful than a lot of people who are declaring doom and gloom for the Democrats. I don't know whether Pelosi is effective or not, but she's not the problem. If Democrats want to take the government back from the thugs currently running it, they have to fight for it and never give up. The GOP never let up on Obama, and they had a lot of success in '10 (the party in charge always loses seats anyway) and '14.
