Yeah, if I designed them they would only keep spewing while they were alerted, there's literally no reason to waste your time when you have infinite time.

Yeah, that's a pretty interesting quickplay arena-shooter roguelike. I imagine there are bound to be some recurring irritations in the enemy or weapon pool we just didn't see.

Dash guy actually doesn't seem as good as he might be, considering how dense that bullet curtain got.

Dash guy is pretty good in normal levels, but he does get wrecked by bosses. The best thing to do is really just switch to the Fortress class during boss fights because they've got the best gear.

I initially thought your character died between updates but it turned out you were just wearing goggles.
Incidentally, I remember from another LP from a while ago there was an item that remotely detonated mines somehow is that still a thing?

Yeah, the Remote Detonator is one of my favorite devices, but it does necessitate a lot of caution. It's the little one-button-and-antenna remote before Bot Confuse.

Gotta say, compared to their last game Eldritch, Slayershock looks very nuts and bolts. Way less consistant with the art style too, fully modeled hands but big blocky textures. But the core of the idea is good and may have made for an excellent game with a bigger budget and good team.

It seems like it's hard doings to recover from even one death in Slayer Shock, at least if it was somewhere threat was a problem.

Pretty much, if you die too much the threat becomes unmanageable. Especially because in the early game you should basically just write off anything that goes over threat 3 as a loss.

If you play Cryptark normally, aiming for the basic goal, it's not all that difficult. It's the voluntary challenges that get you to think, "Well maybe I can pull all this off" and then your overconfidence kills you.

It seems weird that buildings without security stations are more secure, since you can't disarm their poo poo remotely.

This is what opens so many vulnerabilities in computer security in a lot of cases. You'd be amazed how many systems are secured by passwords that themselves are then secured by the process of "What are the odds anybody will look HERE for the password?". Or just flat out that because it is hard for the dev themselves to understand, they figure people will give up before they go through all the spaghetti to figure out a vulnerability.

Then people assume they are completely protected, because hey we have that software, or site, or that home rolled encryption that Bill in accounting wrote 10 years ago, why would we spend time or money on looking at anything better?

Counter-argument: Remote Detonator is amazing, but you need the second level to make it not a suicide button vs generators; that's when every mine and generator becomes a weapon you can wield against your enemies. Annoying screamerbots? Blow up a mine beneath them. Zap everything near the generator. It just requires you to think "Am I far enough away?"

To be fair I almost never buy the remote detonator and I've never actually upgraded it to level 2, so I might be wrong. I'll probably give it a shot in this next video, but I am a man who fears death so I generally go with safer options like Bot Confuse or the EMP.

Remote detonator L2 is really good, with a big range extensions that means you'll be walking on roofs while blowing up land mines in the room below.

Generators are extra fun because they'll destroy spikes but leave computers intact. Always detonate generators, unless you're waiting for a specific enemy to walk into blast range.

It's good that the enemies are contrasted really well against the background, but not so great for the other interactive bits and pieces of the environment. The windows seem especially egregious as they don't appear in the tutorial and until you move across them to get the button indicator they seem like they're just fluff.

That said this is a game I'd probably pick up at some point.

Nongunz has some pretty interesting mechanics - the consumable stat buffs, the chargeable weapon wall, but it seems like losing is just really irritating. And do weapons have a total usable lifetime, or do they recharge when you take them out of the dungeon?

...that menu screen, though. That's way more of an elaborate ruse than I expect out of a roguelike.

Ignatius M. Meen
May 26, 2011

Hello yes I heard there was a lovely trainwreck here and...

Nongunz is extremely creative and I really dig the aesthetic. Dunno how good I'd be at playing it though with that death penalty, maybe if I went on enough card hoard runs I could get myself in a proper preemptive healing mindset and not be tempted to risk hits without burning resources like I usually do.

DAIJOUBU!! ... Daijoubu ?? ?
I wanted to enjoy Nongunz, but I ended up having to return it due to the massive grind that it felt like while just playing for an hour. Also the movement and game play mechanic choices were a bit odd (like only being able to shoot upwards); though maybe I dodged a bullet as you're making the game seem fairly short with the play through videos you're doing. I mean since the bosses don't ever change, what do you feel is the real replay value, Party Bug?

Weapons have an ammo pool that doesn't recharge, so you'll end up having to buy them again after a few runs. Also dying is the worst, yeah. Having to rebuy a bunch of high tier guns and collect all your cards again is a big time sink.
