These games would really benefit from a scene skip option. I'm really not looking forward to going through this door again for the sake of Mira.

Jill always struck me as the intellectual counterpart to Estelle. They really have a lot of similarities, but Estelle is more about action and Jill is more about planning. I mean, let's be honest. Planning things really isn't Estelle's strong point.

She just got lucky in the fact that "beat it with a stick" was the best plan for most of her problems. I mean, wouldn't you want to beat Weissman with a stick? Pretty sure everyone who met him did. Rabbi Raccoon fucked around with this message at 18:06 on Jun 30, 2017 |

I actually found her to be pretty useful. Not exactly overpowered but great in her own right with one great thing that puts her ahead for a bit

I never used Schera unless forced to. Wind isn't a great element to be forced into past the first chapter of the first game, and by the time you get access to her again, you need all 4 characters to be doing something other than affecting the turn order non-stop (seriously that final dungeon is a gigantic pile of bullshit). She actively dragged my party down whenever she got forced into it in SC. She's not bad...there's just always a better option.

EponymousMrYar posted:If it had the incoherent yelling then Really Pants would have game over'd at that dragon dive and the entire fight would have been based around him not getting a turn to do exactly that. I think that's kinda the point of the Agate fight. Agate is billed as "all S-Breaks, all the time" which is kinda intimidating to be up against. He's also one of the few characters to have an S-Break that hits everyone. It has all the markings of an end of chapter boss fight.

That was probably my least favorite door. I never really got invested in their story. Also a little fun fact, if you start a New Game Plus and carry over the items, you get their night sticks.

I like that they FINALLY made Tita a viable character for the final boss fight. It was so long overdue. And man, her and Agate slaughtered it on my playthrough. Tita is easily top-tier from this point on.

Yay Estelle! Going on stats alone, she'd be a bad choice this time around. Now that you can switch her in and out, her all-around above average stats kinda pale in comparison to the specialists. But her versatile crafts and above average reach (and man, her range can be unrealistically ludicrous by the end if memory serves) keep her competitive with everyone else. Honestly, how often do you get an RPG where you have to go out of your way to get a lovely party? Pokemon excluded.

The thing is, while it is almost all luck based, that makes it easier as it goes on. I beat the last guy by at least 1000 points on my playthrough, first try. By the same token, the first guy took me 4 tries.

Maybe they can imagine up a therapist for Renne. But she'd probably send him screaming for the hills. Also it's very subtle but you can see Josette is a lot more comfortable with these people than she was at the beginning.

The reason I didn't like this door didn't hit me until I saw it in this format. This is technically a fantasy RPG series. But when you get down to it, it's more like Star Ocean, where even the most fantastical things are explained as science, not magic. There's not too much mythology, there's mostly history that has plenty of evidence supporting it. There's no "they say back when..." there's only definitive facts that are pretty well known. And in that kind of setting, a story about a talking baby dragon that played with an orphan all day and saved her life after she fell doesn't really fit in well.

NotASmartMan posted:Anything to do with Aureole seems pretty magic related as well, it being considered a gift from the Goddess and all. Plus there's Ragnard. Even the Aureole has a scientific explanation (hell, we just got more info on it) and Ragnard is relatively minor. I just don't feel like the story fits in very well. Unless Luciola targeted that girl for some reason.

Everyone I know who played this always said Cid in SC was one of the harder fights and one of the easier ones this time around. But I found him easy in SC and hard as hell in TC simply because his backup tended to gang up on one character at a time for me.

I bet Kanone's favorite movie is Fatal Attraction. Whenever someone brings up The Notebook or Titanic as a great romance movie, she rolls her eyes and asks if anyone else has tried to lay siege to a castle to prove their love. Also I have no idea how much those mines do, in any of the games. I have never seen them lain near my characters or had them lured that way. It should be noted that if you lose to Cassius (and one boss later), you get the standard "Retry" option that tones him down a bit and "Retry (Easy)" because even Falcom realized how badass Cassius is. EDIT: Also I think you only get the Divine Blade's Emblem if you beat him on his normal difficulty. If you need to retry, you don't get it. You know, these games give their human opponents realistic HP. In fact, you tend to match the HP of the big human bosses from the previous games. And it's heavily implied (if not outright said) that these copies are exact, down to ability, strength, and technique. Cassius Bright is tougher than a goddamn giant robot. Reverie didn't stand a chance. Also on a related note, does anyone have a copy of that scene where Cassius doesn't let the party finish it off? Or at least a transcript? I'm just curious to see how it plays out differently.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again. Josette really does get some good development over the trilogy for someone whose only real significance is in the first half of the first game. Still fairly easily rattled, now she composes herself much quicker. She's started accepting help when needed and has formed solid relationships outside of her family (notably Klaudia and Joshua, but there's a few others that aren't quite as strong). She's come a long way since the brat who stole a Septium Stone from Rolent. She could have easily been a throwaway character, or a shallow, stereotypical rival, but this series doesn't really do either of those. Now if only she was worth a drat in battle. Even getting rid of those drat Earth locked slots would help

Anelace may not be directly involved in the overall plot of the first two games, but she does have a strong connection to a number of characters who do. Of all the Bracers the party interacts with, her or Kurt would have been the most fitting. And even the Lord of Phantasma likes to join in Liberl's second most popular pastime: watching Kurt suffer many wounds to the head. The first most popular is of course shoving Estelle and Joshua together. Rabbi Raccoon fucked around with this message at 12:22 on Aug 31, 2017 |

In a lesser RPG that last scene would have everyone jumping right into the fray. The fact that Tita, Josette, and the casters (save Renne) stay back and provide cover is one of those nice little touches I love the series for
