 the difference is that absolutely all of those are about vrmmos. also, a lot of them feature future selves replacing and effectively killing their past selves for the sake of cheating in a video game.

 it's an incredibly specific wish-fulfillment. but yeah, it isn't exactly gripping unless you can sympathize with his hysterical fans who shriek and wail and rip their own faces off because they can't handle watching someone play video games well.
