Yes they are, I played through both of them and had no issues. Well there was the FPS thing in Vanquish but that got patched

The characters + expanded roster made the battle system more fun, changing MP into Force made for some more interesting choices during boss battles, and letting you skip 75% of encounters meant you could keep yourself under leveled as you please to adjust the difficulty. The story was also crazy and fun, even if the details are lost in the crappy translation.

TBH MGS2 is my least favorite gameplay of the MGS series but it still works perfectly with the setting and design, even if i don't personally gel with it. I don't know how to deal with the first 2 hours on big shell without a non lethal pistol
