I mean whatever you think about the scanning, the fact that it's mostly optional except for gates is great.

Yeah, re-playing Metroid Prime recently the scanning stuff didn't hold up as well as I hoped it would (there's way too much of it and its all written in the same voice) but it sure beats the hell out of having an auto-updating codex in your menu with constant pop-ups and a flashing icon on your menu that you can never clear away fast enough.

The scanning let you read computers of the evil pirate monsters to find out that enough of them tried to keep pets that a company-wide notification went out saying that pets would be killed on sight; for this, it is wonderful.

Also the space pirates' failed attempts at replicating Samus' morph ball crushing all their test subjects.

I kinda really wanna read some cat-themed murder mysteries because goddamn it's just such a *strange* genre to exist. I've gotta know if there are any that are actually good.

I think the term they usually use is "cozy" mysteries. Usually a gimmick like being about cats or teddy bears or skeletons where instead of CSI or Criminal Minds grit and grunge it's fluffy detectivework that won't upset grandma. I used to work a job with a lot of downtime that didn't allow electronics for security purposes so I spent a lot of time chewing through crappy thrift store novels and that is what makes up a lot of their stock.

It's a great game. I kind of wish the story mode had more meat to it but getting to re-do those two hours of content over and over with different rulesets and graphical styles makes up for it.

Circle of the Moon was first Castlevania so I have a lot of affection for it, but the random drop system really sucks in that the card system requires you to collect lots of rare drops and each one is a complete suite of abilities or modifiers so unless you use a guide to grind specific enemies you're probably going to miss out on the majority of the magic system's functionality.

there was one card combo that would set your attack super high, but make it so you'd have to charge up a sword swing while standing still to hit at that attack value

or, you could just slide kick around on the floor like a dog rubbing its butt on the carpet since that just used the raw attack value and would do the exact same damage as the fully charged sword attack

My favorite combo was Summon + Skeleton, which transformed you into a bone-chucking skeleton that would be killed in one hit but would also randomly hurl a giant bone that does 9999 damage.

I only played 1 but apparently the series has a Saints Row progression of goofiness where the first game is a pulpy but relatively grounded crime drama and then a few games later you're fighting adult babies and learning melee attacks by watching people get into scooter accidents and having a chicken working as a real estate broker.

It's not a great Hitman game but it's a decent enough stealth action game, especially if you got it for a buck any one of the times it got that cheap. The bondage titty nuns were definitely the bad kind of stupid (even if their level was great for getting to use a scarecrow costume to sneak through a cornfield undetected and pick people off) but redneck gangs of greasers in bowling shirts, getting to wrestle a giant cartoon Mexican to death, and the crazy Deus Ex munitions factory with pig landmines were all goofy in a fun way.

There's no quick saving and I ran out of respawns near the end of one long and confusing mission and have to do it again.

You can disable the enemy respawning in the game's options. The difficulty is also really variable in general if you poke around there.

Krondor's terrible wig game is on a whole other level, I'm pretty sure there's at least one point in-game where a character calls out Locklear's lovely helmet hair.

It gave the game personality, at least, especially in comparison to how literary it tried to be with the huge amounts of a text and the endorsement of :siren:an actual published fantasy author:siren: even though the developers did all of the actual writing.

Even the game's cheat menu had in-universe text where a magical chest appears in front of everyone and they marvel at the gift and wonder what magic could be responsible for it and at what cost.

Dragon Quest Builders isn't procedurally generated, though. It's a lot easier to have more specialized and unique graphics when the entire universe and everything in it isn't being spawned from the aether around you by an algorithm.

Minecraft's graphics are Good because they're perfectly functional and distinctive.

Man I wish. Only one guy I know IRL is watching it, everyone else either doesn't know what Twin Peaks is or tapped out in the first episode when it was non-stop Lynchian surreal ambiance. The ratings are apparently in the toilet too but it's the kind of thing that nobody watches live anyways and they shot all 18 hours already as a "limited series" so none of that matters even more than usual.

I'm just sad because in the span of one week Better Call Saul, American Gods, Fargo, and The Haindmaid's Tale are all ending so I have no shows to follow aside from Twin Peaks: Teach Me How To Dougie.
