Are there many Australian or Australian military personal in Qatar?

Because either KSA and their allies blockade continues and Qatar runs out of food, there is a coup or someone's going to start shooting in the local area.

(edit, and shooting is ongoing right now in the Iranian Parliament, which is going to make them want to go to war against someone).

I'M CONCERNED ABOUT A NUMBER OF THINGS

quote:

Several recommendations for Yacqub Khayre to participate in deradicalisation programs were rejected or ignored by law enforcement agencies and government-funded community groups, despite repeated warnings he was a potential jihadist.

Fairfax Media has been told a submission was made to Australian Federal Police in 2011, which identified Khayre's extremist views, propensity for violence and isolation from family and community.

It is understood the proposal was rejected by the AFP, which decided against referring the troubled young man to one of several Victorian programs designed to counter Islamic extremism and mitigate public risk.

It is as yet unclear why the proposal was rejected, although it is believed the AFP no longer wished to work closely on Khayre after his acquittal in 2010.

War on terror: Sydney police will be armed with military-style machineguns EXCLUSIVE Andrew Clennell, State Political Editor, The Daily Telegraph June 8, 2017 12:00am

POLICE officers patrolling Sydney’s streets will soon be armed with military-style machineguns.

M4 Colt Carbine weapons, which are used by the US military, will be handed to 100 riot squad officers for use in case of terror attacks. The Daily Telegraph understands an announcement will be made today on the provision of these longarm weapons and the need for shoot-to-kill legislation for police when the initial government response to the Coroner’s report on the Lindt cafe siege goes to cabinet. Police have recommended to Premier Gladys Berejiklian and Police Minister Troy Grant that 100 officers from the Public Order and Riot Squad be given access to the Colt M4 Carbine rifle. Police Commissioner Mick Fuller is calling for frontline cops to be heavily armed as soon as possible in the wake of a wave of attacks in Europe, most recently in London, and is pushing the government to act. It is understood police have recommended to Premier Gladys Berejiklian and Police Minister Troy Grant that 100 officers from the Public Order and Riot Squad be given access to the guns.
Yes more police armed with more powerful guns is entirely the message that the coroner was making in the Lindt inquiry report. I mean you just don't get quality unintended bystander kill shots with low powered weapons and we really don't want innocent members of the public to suffer. But why stop there? Thread darling Daniel Andrews wants to go full Ministry of Love:

http://www.abc.net.au/news/2017-06-08/victoria-calls-for-afp-airport-squads-to-prevent-terrorism/8599584

quote:

Victoria calls for AFP airport squads, new security measures to prevent terrorism Updated 18 minutes ago

Victoria will push the Commonwealth to introduce new security measures, including a permanent 24-hour specialist federal police squad based in airports, to respond to potential terrorism threats. Premier Daniel Andrews said the Victorian Government would use the Council of Australian Governments (COAG) meeting in Hobart on Friday to lobby for measures including:

the Australian Federal Police (AFP) providing 24-hour tactical support to help authorities respond to threats at airports
giving the state greater access to telecommunications technology, and the power to disable mobile phone networks during major events
better access to defence facilities for training

"We live in uncertain times," Mr Andrews said. "The Tullamarine Airport, the Avalon Airport, these are federal assets and I think the time has come for us to have a dedicated 24-7 tactical response. "When you think about across the world, airports have so often been the target. We need to take that next step." Mr Andrews said giving states the power to disable a mobile phone network to provide one source of information could avoid possible crowd crushes at large public events.
"There are ways in which we can disable the mobile phone network and then provide one point of information — perhaps at a sporting venue on the large electronic scoreboard — that guides people on how to evacuate, guides people on how to avoid stampedes, crushes, those sorts of things. "A very tight geographical space can be isolated and then you can use one stream of communication rather than many thousands to coordinate and direct in the interests of safety," he said. "That capability, that technology is available now."

Yesterday, Mr Andrews said he would also be pushing for the AFP and ASIO to be more involved in decisions about granting parole to criminals on a terror watch list. Police Minister Lisa Neville said she expected support from other states. "We're going to COAG with every intention to maximise and improve the counter-terrorism response across the country and work very closely with the Commonwealth on the ground," she said.

In case people have forgotten parole is the most effective way of reintegrating people who have been incarcerated back into society. Society can compel them to attend re-education activities (etc) Oh wait! Funding has been cut and lol if you want to refer people there anyway.

All this just pushes the actual elephant further towards the back of the room. How about not killing women and children in Arabic countries? Is that option seriously not on the table?

In the case of people known to be at risk, where the state already has powers of coercion, then they will be channelled towards them and the effects monitored closely as part of ongoing correctional activities. Clearly the anti terror theatre is doing little to protect citizens and we must not further encroach on our freedoms or intrude into the Australian way of life. I think you all misunderstand that I am stating what happens in politics, not my ideological perspective. The ALP doesn't have a strong, noble approach to terrorism that isn't security and law and order. Their policy is watered down LNP policy. I don't even vote for the ALP.

I could get in here and masturbate furiously over the purest ideology with the best, but then we would be in the same sphere as voters that doggedly pursue law and order issues or flip their wigs over terrorism. The plain and simple problem is that you want Labor economic policy for what that is worth these days, but you have to deal with the fact that the working voter base for the ALP is very interested in law and order/terrorism. The more this stuff happens both here and internationally, the more it speeds ALP voters who have welfare state hearts across to the LNP because they hate browns and fear spectres so viscerally that they submit to getting clowned on economically in exchange for a perception of security.

This is a country that elects conservative governments far more often than it does progressive governments and I think you need to factor that into policy and public statements.
