War on terror: Sydney police will be armed with military-style machineguns EXCLUSIVE Andrew Clennell, State Political Editor, The Daily Telegraph June 8, 2017 12:00am

POLICE officers patrolling Sydney’s streets will soon be armed with military-style machineguns.

M4 Colt Carbine weapons, which are used by the US military, will be handed to 100 riot squad officers for use in case of terror attacks. The Daily Telegraph understands an announcement will be made today on the provision of these longarm weapons and the need for shoot-to-kill legislation for police when the initial government response to the Coroner’s report on the Lindt cafe siege goes to cabinet. Police have recommended to Premier Gladys Berejiklian and Police Minister Troy Grant that 100 officers from the Public Order and Riot Squad be given access to the Colt M4 Carbine rifle. Police Commissioner Mick Fuller is calling for frontline cops to be heavily armed as soon as possible in the wake of a wave of attacks in Europe, most recently in London, and is pushing the government to act. It is understood police have recommended to Premier Gladys Berejiklian and Police Minister Troy Grant that 100 officers from the Public Order and Riot Squad be given access to the guns.
Yes more police armed with more powerful guns is entirely the message that the coroner was making in the Lindt inquiry report. I mean you just don't get quality unintended bystander kill shots with low powered weapons and we really don't want innocent members of the public to suffer. But why stop there? Victoria calls for AFP airport squads, new security measures to prevent terrorism Updated 18 minutes ago

Victoria will push the Commonwealth to introduce new security measures, including a permanent 24-hour specialist federal police squad based in airports, to respond to potential terrorism threats. Premier Daniel Andrews said the Victorian Government would use the Council of Australian Governments (COAG) meeting in Hobart on Friday to lobby for measures including:

the Australian Federal Police (AFP) providing 24-hour tactical support to help authorities respond to threats at airports
giving the state greater access to telecommunications technology, and the power to disable mobile phone networks during major events
better access to defence facilities for training

"We live in uncertain times," Mr Andrews said. "The Tullamarine Airport, the Avalon Airport, these are federal assets and I think the time has come for us to have a dedicated 24-7 tactical response. "When you think about across the world, airports have so often been the target. We need to take that next step." Mr Andrews said giving states the power to disable a mobile phone network to provide one source of information could avoid possible crowd crushes at large public events.
"There are ways in which we can disable the mobile phone network and then provide one point of information — perhaps at a sporting venue on the large electronic scoreboard — that guides people on how to evacuate, guides people on how to avoid stampedes, crushes, those sorts of things. "A very tight geographical space can be isolated and then you can use one stream of communication rather than many thousands to coordinate and direct in the interests of safety," he said. "That capability, that technology is available now."

Yesterday, Mr Andrews said he would also be pushing for the AFP and ASIO to be more involved in decisions about granting parole to criminals on a terror watch list. Police Minister Lisa Neville said she expected support from other states. "We're going to COAG with every intention to maximise and improve the counter-terrorism response across the country and work very closely with the Commonwealth on the ground," she said.

In case people have forgotten parole is the most effective way of reintegrating people who have been incarcerated back into society. Society can compel them to attend re-education activities (etc) Oh wait! Funding has been cut and lol if you want to refer people there anyway.

All this just pushes the actual elephant further towards the back of the room. How about not killing women and children in Arabic countries? Is that option seriously not on the table?

In the case of people known to be at risk, where the state already has powers of coercion, then they will be channelled towards them and the effects monitored closely as part of ongoing correctional activities. But it must be stressed that without disengagement and steps towards reconciliation in the Middle East we can do little more than bandaid these wounds.

Clearly the anti terror theatre is doing little to protect citizens and we must not further encroach on our freedoms or intrude into the Australian way of life. It is folly to spend money on ineffective and counterproductive measures. I can assure the people of Victoria that their money will not be misspent in pointless window dressing."

Donations row engulfs Turnbull’s team The Australian12:00AM June 9, 2017 SIMON BENSON National Political EditorSydney

A senior member of Malcolm Turnbull’s campaign team had directly solicited a political donation prior to last year’s election campaign from Chinese-born Australian billionaire Chau Chak Wing, who is now at the centre of a political storm over foreign donations and political influence. The Australian has also confirmed that Labor Party officials at both state and federal branch levels were even more vigorous in their approaches to Dr Chau in seeking donations for last year’s election campaign. Dr Chau, an Australian citizen of 20 years, hit back at suggestions he was a puppet of China’s Communist Party, telling The Australian that many of the donations he had made to both side of politics were in response to approaches from political party officials. This has been backed up by senior officials from both major parties, who have admitted they saw Dr Chau as a cash cow for their election campaigns.

Election donation returns show that in the 12 months prior to last year’s election, Dr Chau donated more than $800,000 to both parties following approaches for financial support. The Australian understands that ASIO has issued updated warnings to political officials over its concerns about China’s “soft power” influence in Australia as recently as the past month. Bill Shorten this week tried to distance Labor from Dr Chau, claiming: “We (the Labor Party) don’t want these individuals’ or associates’ money. I do not want these two individuals who were named on Four Corners to be making donations to the Labor Party, and I have made it clear, before last night, that I don’t want our party accepting donations from these people.”

An ABC Four Corners report on Monday named Dr Chau in an attempt to make links between foreign donations and political influence. Former prime minister John Howard in 2015 described Dr Chau as being crucial in securing a key LNG deal with China. Dr Chau said in a statement to The Australian: “These reports, and the subsequent political reaction they have triggered, have caused great distress and disappointment to me and my family. All of my political donations, which in some cases resulted from a direct approach by the major parties, have been made and declared strictly in accordance with Australian electoral laws. They have also been made with complete transparency through businesses I am clearly identified with. “At no time have I sought to, or seen any reason to, use an elaborate corporate structure to mask a donation to a political party. Further, I have never sought or received any personal or commercial benefit in connection to a political donation. The most distressing allegation of recent days is that I am somehow acting as a conduit of information for the Chinese Communist Party, which risks jeopardising Australia’s sovereignty. For clarity, I am not and have never been a member of the Chinese Communist Party, and I completely reject the suggestion I have acted in any way on behalf of, or under instruction from, that entity.”

A senior Liberal organisational official confirmed the party had approached the family of Dr Chau, who bought James Packer’s Vaucluse mansion in Sydney’s east for $70 million in 2015, before the election asking to donate to the 2016 campaign. “He was a longstanding donor, and an Australian citizen,” the official said. The official also defended Dr Chau, claiming there had never been evidence he was linked to the Communist Party or had sought to bear influence, despite an ASIO warning about Chinese political donors. “He never asked for anything,” the Liberal Party official said. “All he was interested in was good relations between Australia and China.” Labor and Liberal Party officials were warned by ASIO in 2015 about taking donations from foreign Chinese entities and companies alleged to have links back to the Communist Party.

However, Dr Chau, as an Australian citizen and proprietor of several Australian businesses, is not a foreign political donor.

He is pursuing a defamation case against a former Fairfax journalist who joined Mr Turnbull’s office in 2015. “I am immensely grateful for all of the opportunities living and working in such a wonderful country have provided me and my family, and I have sought to repay that gratitude by investing in education, cultural and health projects that will provide broad benefit,” he said. A senior Labor source confirmed party officials had regularly asked Dr Chau for donations: “Of course we did. We got greedy.”
Man gives millions to both political parties for "Improved China Australia relations" :jerkbag: :itwaspoo:

Revealed: Australia's top 10 dole bludger suburbs where welfare recipients are slacking off the most By Jacob Polychronis For Daily Mail Australia PUBLISHED: 01:49 +10:00, 13 June 2017 | UPDATED: 10:10 +10:00, 13 June 2017

New figures have revealed Australia's top 10 dole bludging suburbs Blacktown has the highest figure in New South Wales and second nationwide. On top was Caboolture, north of Brisbane, while Victoria had five in the top ten. A total of 28,150 people in NSW in the past were found to be dole bludgers

Australia's top 10 dole bludger hotspots have been revealed, with Caboolture in Queensland coming first and Blacktown in Sydney's west second in the national list. New figures show the amount of welfare recipients who have consistently failed to turn up to jobseeker interviews or work-for-the-dole appointments in the past year. Residents in Blacktown are the second least likely to meet the requirements of their welfare conditions, with 333 people failing to turn up to five or more appointments, The Daily Telegraph reported.

Top of the nationwide list was Caboolture, north of Brisbane, with 387 dole bludgers while Victoria took up five places in the top 10. Mildura, in north-west Victoria, had the third-highest figure of dole bludgers with 329 failing to turn up to five or more appointments, followed by Frankston - in Melbourne's south-east - and Deception Bay, north of Brisbane.

AUSTRALIA'S TOP TEN BLUDGER HOTSPOTS

1. Caboolture, Queensland

2. Blacktown, New South Wales

3. Mildura, Victoria

4. Frankston, Victoria

5. Deception Bay, Queensland

6. Werribee, Victoria

7. St Albans, Victoria

8. Dubbo, New South Wales

9. Auburn, New South Wales

10. Dandenong, Victoria

A total of 2,241 people in the top 10 and more than 28,150 in NSW failed to turn up to five or more Centrelink appointments or job interviews in the past year, the newspaper reported. Human Services Minister Alan Tudge denied the government was 'embarrassing' suburbs by publishing the list. 'This is not embarrassing the suburbs. This is simply pointing out where the numbers lie. Unfortunately, there are hotspots in this country,' he told the Nine Network on Tuesday. Mr Tudge said the results show why the government's proposal for a demerit point system is needed. Those who rack up four demerit points will then enter the 'three strikes' territory and face climbing penalties, including losing half their fortnightly payment for their first strike without a reasonable excuse. 'There are clearly suburbs in Australia where there is a concentration of people consistently missing appointments and job interviews and have no excuse for doing so,' he told The Daily Telegraph. 'The majority are men under 30 who should be doing everything they can to get work.'

Nationals MP Andrew Broad, whose Victorian electorate includes Mildura - which has the state's highest rate of welfare non-compliance - says there are job opportunities in his region. 'If you are receiving an unemployment benefit in Mildura we expect you to have a mutual obligation to be giving back and to go from being an unemployed person to being a job seeker,' Mr Broad told reporters in Canberra. 'We do have a job for you.' Australians expect those receiving benefits to be compliant with the rules, he said.
Let's unpick that a bit:

http://caboolture.localstats.com.au/demographics/qld/brisbane/outer-northern-suburbs/caboolture

quote:

n the 2011 census the population of Caboolture was 21,929

quote:

Caboolture has an unemployment rate of 10.3%.

= 2260 unemployed. So this 'hot spot is a tiny proportion of the unemployed AND given the level of screwing up that the JSPs do especially regarding 'appointments' a high proportion are likely to be spurious in any case. :jerkbag:

http://www.abc.net.au/news/2017-06-10/uk-election-democratic-unionist-party-dup-brexit-explained/8606954

What does this mean for Brexit?

The party is now led by former-lawyer and unionist Arlene Foster.

Ms Foster has previously said "no-one wants to see a hard Brexit" and has spoken about the need to avoid a hard border with the Republic of Ireland.

"What we want to see is a workable plan to leave the European Union, and that's what the national [referendum] vote was about it — therefore we need to get on with that," she said in an interview with Sky News.

"No-one wants to see a hard border, Sinn Fein [the opposing party in Northern Ireland] talk about it a lot, but nobody wants a hard border."

So following the monumentally stupid Brexit referendum fate has handed May a government that will make leaving the EEU complex at best and more likely impossible. The Torys in the UK are an example to us all (of one sort or another).

Still a douche move.

And shooting video of your sad little glitter bomb attack for a little viral release after the fact? A moronic douche move of such life-threatening stupidity that you would probably die of stupidity even in a carefully controlled ecosystem designed to foster hand-raised idiots for release into the wild. An environment, say, not unlike the comment thread of an Andrew Bolt blog.

Yes. That's right.

If you are dumb enough to physically attack Andrew Bolt, even with glitter and shaving cream, you are probably so stupid that natural selection couldn't find a niche for you in an environment of perfect stupidity.

Seriously, what were those guys thinking last week? The ones who not only attacked Bolt from behind but apparently did so on camera?

The first thing they were thinking, like anybody who raises a hand against anyone else, is that they were going to win. They were going to get away with it.

But that didn't work out so well did it?

I'll give the Bolter this if nothing else, he has a brawler's instincts and a fighter's spirit. He was attacked, without warning, from behind, and his natural reaction was two-fisted. Most people would just freeze. There was nothing polished about his defence. It was a wild melee of a thing, with no footwork and dangerously poor target selection. I think he might have punched a pole at one point. But unlike the arse clowns who ambushed him, he was up for it. The first sign of any push back and those heroes, all three of them, went to water.

They looked like cowards and fools. The only harm they did to Bolt was to ruin his suit, which he's now auctioned off for charity.

The harm they did to the arguments and standing of everyone who disagrees with his vile and frequently dangerous opinions was immeasurable.

Nice work, fellas.

NICK GRIMM: Ten years ago this week, one of the defining moments in Australian national life began unfolding in remote communities in the outback.

The Northern Territory intervention was launched by the then Howard government in response to reports of social dysfunction and allegations of endemic abuse of women and children in remote communities.

Since then, the policy has continued under governments of both persuasions.

But 10 years on critics of the Intervention say it's fixed nothing.

Pat Turner is currently CEO of the National Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation.

She was previously a CEO of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Commission, ATSIC, and had a long career as a senior Commonwealth public servant.

I spoke to Pat Turner a little earlier.

Pat Turner, can I start by asking you this: Ten years on, what's the best thing you have to say about the Northern Territory Intervention?

PAT TURNER: (Laughs) Nothing, really, I'm afraid.

It was a complete violation of the human rights of Aboriginal people in the Northern Territory.

It came out of the blue, following the Commonwealth Government's reading and response to The Little Children Are Sacred report.

NICK GRIMM: So how would you describe the legacy of the process that began 10 years ago?

PAT TURNER: Well, I think it's still a shambles.

You know, both sides of politics were responsible.

While it was introduced by the Liberal government, the Coalition under John Howard and Mal Brough, it was carried on also by Jenny Macklin and Kevin Rudd and Gillard and so on.

So the legacy is that Aboriginal people were completely disempowered.

They had the Army going into communities in their uniforms. They had no idea why the Army was there.

You know, to send the Army in at a time like that was just totally confusing. People were terrified that they'd come to take the kids away. There would be no explanation as to why they were going in.

And it wasn't their fault; it was the way the Government handled it.

The government also, at the time, insisted that every child under 16 have a full medical check. Now, actually what they were looking for, I think, was whether a child had been sexually abused.

And we said, at the time, those of us who were opposed to the way the Government was handling this, "You cannot do that without parental permission. You must have parental permission. You would not do a medical check on any other child in Australia and you should not do that with our children without their parents' say-so".

And what's more, fine, go ahead, do a full medical check, but what are you going to do when you find the otitis media, when you find the trachoma, when you find the upper respiratory diseases, when you find rheumatic heart disease? Where…
Bold it all (etc.) Oh and there's more that's just an excerpt. Didn't want to get anyone too upset.

But by arguing the budget is one that eases the cost of living for families, has the Government over-egged its sales pitch and set itself up to fail its own test?

It did not take long for the obvious questions to fly thick and fast at the Treasurer's media conference. What was the Government doing to help households pay for sky-rocketing electricity bills or the climbing cost of driving on Sydney's motorways? What hope did it offer renters in one of the most unaffordable cities in the world? A thin film of sweat began to gather on the Treasurer's lip as he tried to steer the media pack back to the stellar state of the economy and what it meant more broadly for families. "We don't run surpluses for the sake of it," Mr Perrottet said. "We run surpluses so we can invest those funds in the things that matter most to people's lives — better healthcare, better education and better public transport." The billions of dollars in the budget for new schools and hospitals will no doubt make a huge difference to the everyday lives of families. It should be an excellent selling point for the Government in the home stretch to the 2019 election. But by trying to market this budget as one that eases the cost of living, the Government has scored an own goal.

The obscene surplus was only achieved by an aggressive and stupid privatisation campaign. To compare it to a household budget: We can now afford to rent for a few years because we sold our house. These clowns are painfully and aggressively stupid. I guess I know where pubbie WoT players come from.

Challenge excepted. Is it OK that I did all the qualification stuff before you asked? I especially focus on the special needs kids. One time I only found out the fifteen year old couldn't read because I devoted enough one on one time. Let's be brutally frank: The HSC isn't all that loving hard. If you are bright and apply yourself you'll do well despite the attention of any number of teachers. These are the students that are being put forward as the ones being disadvantaged by being disrupted by the less able. Even that part of the premise is bullshit. What is really really hosed up is the mental process that divides society into worthy/not worthy. gently caress That Noise. Seriously that is the asperational John Galt bootstraps bullshit that sees the gap between rich and poor get wider every day. You know like what's happening here in Australia.

So Dancing Shade take your completely refuted bullshit somewhere else.

Completely refuted.

What do the experts think?

Let's hear what education expert Shiralee Poed from The University of Melbourne thinks about Senator Pauline Hanson's comments. Typically what we find is children with disabilities in mainstream classrooms are supported by teacher assistants. What we found is there's actually benefits to the other children in the room, where they go over concepts that perhaps they have missed so kids without disabilities have benefits from having children's with disabilities in the rooms. They have higher outcomes of literacy and numeracy because of the children in the room.

Well if you include the context that someone (Dancing Shade) was having an arguement from authority jab at Anidav for saying:

DancingShade posted:

Now while Dancing shade didn't actually say I support Pauline Hanson and the Nazi theory of Eugenics that was the subject being discussed. As their 'challenge' was complete bullshit I called them on it. Subsequent expert evidence supports my anecdote.

Milky decided to have some ill considered shot of jizz in my general direction, and missed horribly, only retroactively explaining their context in the hopes it wouldn't make them look like a gently caress wit.
