Dedicated long term mental hospitals basically don't exist anymore. The Reagan years killed off most of them and the remaining few closed up shop since then. There's been a push by the psychology field to move toward a more group home structure for long term care, and even that is usually reserved for people who are either incredibly mentally unstable, dangerous, or have a serious intellectual disability in addition to mental illness. It's not to say they don't exist period but its incredibly unlikely youd qualify for one, and you're definitely romanticizing it.
