Siroc posted:Yet we've been at >97% attendance for at least the last 6 years. You're aware those numbers are bogus poo poo, right? Like the team will sell tickets to a university that will do "student rush" and those are considered sold whether or not they're occupied? I'd like to see if Nashville's "97% attendance" actually means "97% 'sold'" or "we sent people around and 97% of the seats are occupied." I'll bet it's the former. I work for a huge Pens sponsor and they just poo poo tickets out on employees during the regular season.

For any given home game we get 40+ free tickets if we agree to hand out swag before the game, and lovely games don't even require that. (The guys who hand out programs at the escalators are employees where I work)

A friend of mine worked for the Pens during the 2000s and we talked about this often. She pretty quickly said it was BS. That the terms were something along the lines of IF the other city could offer triple what we had that it would be discussed. But realistically it wasn't never really an issue. The new ownership wanted a profitable arena. It was all about getting a new stadium because the Civic Arena literally was broke and couldn't sustain itself with just hockey (nobody would book shows there because the green rooms were roach infested). The Penguins have since hosed the city considering the former Civic Arena site is just a parking lot instead of the apartment / strip mall complex it wanted to be. After 7 loving years. gently caress the ownership. While I'm glad the Pens are still here.. They're fucktards.

That's every ownership group under the sun though. not defending them, I would like a nice complex to walk to, but the city was too lenient to them. Same reason I'm glad Peduto took a stance on Uber.

You are telling me that an owner of the professional sports team puts pressure on elected officials by using public opinion to get 100% taxpayer funded arenas on bogus research that it stimulates the economy in the area as if no one has seen the loving hill district in the last 30 loving years??? The Penguins wanted an arena built 100% with private money from a casino developer but the PA gaming board gave the slots license to a guy who was so loving stupid he lost money on CASINOS and was broke by the time the Pittsburgh casino got built and someone else took it over This same gaming board also gave a slots license in Eastern PA to the Mafia, they really did a bang-up job
