Define "good," because they're basically replacing bench corpses from last year and their real effectiveness only matters in the finals.

I bet Melo will have more if two things happen: 1) He actually embraces being a PF full-time 2) The minute distribution is appropriate instead of doing all-bench like last year. Tae fucked around with this message at 01:20 on Oct 5, 2017 |

I'm pretty sure every center wishes they were a point guard, like how every all-star game is one of them trying to do a cross over.

Lopez and mirotic is too much talent to go single digit wins. They need trade both to be as bad as the Christian eyenga cavs.

OKC is the 2nd best team on paper, but they might fall behind a bit because they had such a roster turnover in the starters.

Cash Monet posted:That team seems like less than the sum of its parts. Houston and San Antonio have an identity and OKC could be a chemistry set this season. The Spurs lost a lot of depth and Tony Parker is out until next year. The Thunder replaced lovely Oladipo and a rookie bad stretch 4 with Paul George and Melo.

The Celtics last were carried by IT's tiny back. They effectively had no PF half the time because they do the pretend-start thing. That team's biggest weakness is any elite guard because Avery Bradly took over defensive iso duties.

Spacebump posted:Another good question is who is better the Rockets or the Thunder? The Thunder may have added Paul George and Melo (plus lost Kanter), but the Rockets adding Chris Paul is a bigger deal. Chris Paul is much better then either George or Melo. It's hard to decide which of these teams should be better but I would guess the Rockets. The biggest reason to doubt the Rockets CP3 experiment is injury concerns. Also, not sure on what you mean by comeback year for Anderson. Dude was more accurate from 3-point line than he's has been in years. He's literally played more games last season than the previous 4 years combined.

Unguaranteed are common among non-super stars. You have plenty of contracts like Rondo with 90% of it being unguaranteed if they're cut before a certain date. It's basically used as a sweetener to guys that are going to get 1 year contracts anyway. edit: Probably one of the more complicated contract situations is Jrue Holiday, because they boosted his number up with performance clauses that is better for their cap, but way worse for the hard cap because it all counts as if it's reached.

Generally if you see a team trade players for basically nothing (2nd rounders), it is for cap relief. That is because some teams are in the luxury tax, paying 2 or 3 times for a player's worth. Like I think the Warriors are paying 15 million for Nick Young when his actual salary is like 5 million.

I'm just not a believer in one guy, especially a 32-33 year old at the PF spot, making literally the 2nd worst defensive team into...average? I'm also not a huge fan at all on the Pelicans. Their shooting situation makes the Timberwolves the Rockets in comparison.
