contract the league by 66%

Yes, there is no need to keep bad teams around, not when teams that have been good for their entire histories i.e. the Golden State Warriors and Cleveland Cavaliers are dominating the game.

Seriously, the fact the two dominant teams right now and Cleveland and Golden State are like, some of the biggest arguments against contraction ever.

19 year old Rookie PGs especially. You can sometimes find bigs that can contribute, or defensive, hustle wings. Fultz will probably be a contributor by the end of next season but I don't think he will be a focal point or anything.

Hayward would make a real big difference though.

Fultz is big, long, and athletic. He will make a bigger impact that I think you are making it out to be but I agree that it does almost nothing to close the gap between the Celtics and the Cavs.

A few other other big, long and athletic rookies who weren't positive contributors in their rookie seasons: Lebron James, Kevin Durant, Giannis Antetokounpo. Being an effective player as a rookie in the NBA is very rare, and the younger the rookie is, the rarer it is.

The gently caress? What kind of dumbass revisionist history is Lebron James and Kevin Durant not being positive contributors during their rookie years?

Durant earned 2.3 win shares despite being played out of position and Lebron had like a Vorp of 3 and winshares above 5.

Yeah Giannis has not great but he spend the better part of his basketball career up to that point playing against 5 foot tall dudes in Greece so you can see why he might struggle out of the gate. Never mind the fact that those dudes are all forwards and Fultz is a Point Guard.

If you want to compare him to contemporary players, look at Wall or Kyrie. Wall came out and played pretty well his rookie year, and Kyrie played at drat near All Star levels. Elite Point Guard prospects can do well their rookie years.

No way Kyrie goes over Fultz. Kyrie is a great player but he barely played in college and while he was the consensus #1 in that class, (if I'm remembering correctly) that class was thought to be very poor.

Do you like any sports? Every league I can think of has a handful of good teams and the other 90% are middle of the pack or bottom feeders.

Like do you really think the Padres have a shot at the World Series this year?

Basketball is different because aside from an NFL QB, there really isn't a situation where you can get one superstar that dramatically changes a whole team. LeBron goes back to Cleveland and they immediately turn from garbage to Finals competitors.

Baseball is a really terrible point to bring up because most people, including "experts" expected teams like the Brewers, Rockies, Dbacks, and Twins to finish well below .500 and if the season ended today they would be in the playoffs. Parity in Baseball is extremely reverent.

But also I don't think that parity is either a problem, nor is it "fixable" in the NBA unless you do things that are massively anti-player like limiting teams to one max contract. Basketball has, and always will be a game about stars and that will never end.

Also Shrinking the league makes the product infinitely worse.

Less teams mean talent can pool way easier. If you think you're seeing the same 2 teams in the finals now, enjoy seeing the CP3/Harden/Kawhi/Lebron/Davis Cavs go up against the Curry/Thompson/Durant/Draymond/Cousins Warriors for 8 seasons in a row.

Lebron is going to be 38 in 5 years. Curry's ankles could die tomorrow and no one would bat an eye.

I've never mat a fan so fatalist that they hate their team so much they literally, unironically want they contracted.
