As someone who was a teenage boy, I have to disagree with thinking that being ashamed of one's body is a specifically trans experience. I like that Marco being trans is a legit reading, but I think there's plenty of evidence against it. Namely, we see a pretty actualized adult Marco, and he's as masculine as you get.
