Post More.

Okay. I don't have much more painted up. Here's the guy with the icon of flame in the Rubric Squad. He's very contemplative about this skull he found.

And this is the only Tzaangor I've painted so far, as a prototype for the rest. They're probably getting painted up next.

These are also great and if I'd had this before the thread went up, I'd have used this for the Thousand Sons banner :)

Thanks. The rhino wasn't finished until last night and I guess I was intimidated by the quality of the other faction shots.

Quick battle reports for my first games of 40k:

1. 25 PL "Only War' scenario game. My army is the stuff in my original picture (rhino, 10 rubrics, exalted sorcerer on disc), his was Admech. I don't know the names of any of the AdMech units but it was a Tech-Priest, robo-spider with biggest gun, 5 man heavy weapon squad and 5 man squad of dual-wielding close combat specialists.

My Exalted Sorceror managed to do a 6 wound Smite on turn one into the robot spider without exposing himself, and my opponent generally had a bad time as the Rubrics dumped heavy fire into everything. He just took potshots to little effect. Smite seemed really good, even the Rubric Sorceror's lovely Smite

2. 1000 points, the matched play scenario with an objective in each player's deployment zone. I had the same list + 10 Tzaangors, 5 Scarab Occult Terminators and Helbrute (power scourge, twin lascannon). He played Sisters of Battle (2 dual flamer transports with 5 sister squads, 10 sister squad with some heavier guns, Celestine, Exorcist tank, some characters with buffs?).

It started off well as I cleaned the 10 sister squad off the table on the top of round 1, but I left the Sorcerer on a walkway above my mass of Tzaangors and Rubrics. I thought he'd be safe and he was safe from everyone but a Celestine that uses Act of Faith to move at the start of the turn, then move again so that she's in easy charge range. After 4 rounds of Celestine just straight murdering my stuff he tabled me. I was doing pretty well against everything else but I didn't have a good way to deal with Celestine, especially after he shot the Helbrute off the table on turn 1.

Now that I'm home and looking at the leaked Imperium 2 index I think he was doing too many Acts of Faith per turn. I guess I should have checked him on that. Not sure it would have mattered, it was just a 4x4 table so Celestine didn't need to zoom around much after turn 1.

If anyone cares, here's how my games went:

Mission Three - Drydock
Scavengers vs. Chaos Marines (Tzeentch)
Deployment was initially massively in my opponent's favor. Three of the loot counters were on the upper level and he had chosen that side as his deployment zone. So not only did I have to race up there to get loot, I also had an uphill battle the whole way and the slick ground subplot to really limit my movement. Credit to him, he was willing to change his choice to one of the side edges so that we both had models on the upper and lower levels.

This was easily my longest game. It was a lot of fun and was pretty back and forth. The slick ground claimed a few cultists and I took things slow. My plasma gunner ran out of ammo on the first turn again despite the re-roll from the tech-priest. My highlight of the game was when my melta gunner burned the gently caress out of a chaos marine at point blank range. At the end of the game, the chaos marines were pinned all over the board, but had 3/4 of the loot counters. They opted to bottle. Technically a win for me, but I rolled a one for my clues and received two total vs. his four.

One of my guardsmen suffered a head wound after being taken out by a flamer. It was, of course, the guy with the facial scars. He gained frenzy and had to miss my next game. I had no other injuries.

The first accusations started to fly after this round. Every single one of them was wrong and three or four kill teams were cast out and hunted, including my next opponent, another Grey Knights kill team.

welp, surprise goon warham matchup :hfive: That was a good game. I should have taken a few pictures of it. I beat up on the Sisters player right after you did, before our game, and your report explains why he was so depleted already.

That was my first time playing at that LGS. It was pretty fun but playing on those crazy tables wasn't as fun as looking at them. It was really easy to get put in a really bad spot, and all the structures didn't accommodate Rubric marine and tzaangor-cultists well. The space station in particular seemed awful for anything bigger than tactical marines on a 25mm bases.

We should play a regular sized game of 40k some time

I played 2000 points a game today of my mostly Thousand Sons chaos mixed bag list against Tau. It was my 4th game of 40k.

My bad list, since I don't have some stuff I want yet:

Super Heavy Auxiliary Detachment
-Magnus

Battalion Detachment
-The Changeling
-Demon Prince w/ Wings (thousand sons/tzeentch)
-Exalted Sorcerer on Disc
-10 Rubric Marines (2 flamer, 1 soul cannon, icon)
-10 Tzaangors
-10 Blue Horrors (enough points leftover for brimstone replacements)
-7 Deathguard Plaguemarines (guys from the box)
-Helbrute (twin lascannon, power scourge)
-Rhino (w/ the havoc launcher)
-5 Scarab Terminators (+soul cannon, hellfire missiles)

his list: i don't know for sure and I was kinda miffed about how unclear he was about it. All I know for sure is that he had 7 total command points with two Outrider detachments and two other detachments. The Outrider detachments were just full of drones, such that he had 72 drones on the table. He had a handful of character suits that could jet around real fast and ignore penalties for advances.

It was the Maelstrom darkness mission and I lost 17-15 on points. I scored a lot of early points since he just sat in his bubble and shot me while I got objectives but I couldn't get past the drone bubblewrap on the right side of the field and everything eventually died enough that he could freely move around.

It didn't feel lopsided and I made boneheaded new player mistakes, but I might have just quit the game earlier if not for my early high scoring. It was a pretty unfun list to play against. The drones were all unpainted and not based, so it looked dumb as hell too. He also did not understand the rules for cover and consolidations after combat but fortunately it didn't matter much.

question about combat consolidations:

You consolidate 3" after your unit fights, then combat continues right? My opponent insisted he could consolidate after all the fights happen, so that he gets within 1" of my Rubric Marines that weren't charged and the Rubrics don't get to fight back.

I'm like 90% sure he was wrong but he insisted and I didn't care much since I could and did smite them off the table before shooting anyway.

I'm liking 40k but I've never had so many weird rules disputes in other minis games.

I am playing in my first Warhammer 40k tournament this weekend, Warzone Houston. Day one is over and I have a Minor Loss against Astra Militarum + Knights, Minor Victory against Death Guard, and Major Loss against Ad Mech + a Knight. Those Kastelans are real bad news.

I am playing Thousand Sons and I'm just playing my new bad army so I'm not going to go into fully detailed battle reports, but man there are a lot of Knights here. At least one at every table it seems. The missions for this tournament are basically the first set that ITC had released back in June, so Eternal War missions with adjusted points, +1 to go first instead of auto go first, and set 6 rounds.

The Eternal War end of game scoring has gotten boring fast. Everything moves so fast and things die enough that whoever is losing less units is probably just going to move into position and win anyway. The objectives only seem to matter for the difference between a major/minor victory.

regardless, I'm still having fun and learning the game.

I am also turning my Dark Imperium primaris into Deathwatch at the moment and clipping all those shoulder pads was a pain.

After I replaced all the left pads with Deathwatch ones I glued everyone together. Then I opened the 5-man Kill Team box I bought and found out that box has 16 right shoulder chapter sculpted pads. Spent another hour taking the sharp clippers at the primaris boys.

I painted up some primaris ready to kill some xenos. My first time painting power armor/space marines and went a little thick with the highlights but I think it came out fine.
