These two are both dark counterparts to the partners of Tai and Matt, the main characters of the first season of the Digimon anime, but neither is really that important beyond that. Skull Greymon is the only one who actually gets to show up in that season and others, and Shadow WereGarurumon does have a part in one of the movies, but that movie is for Digimon Frontier, and thus no one gives a single poo poo.

Not quite! WereGarurumon (Black) does appear in Frontier, yes, but it isn't in the movie. He appears in a single, unimportant episode about Trailmon racing that, of course, every protagonist ends up joining only for Takuya to win because this is Frontier and no one other than Takuya and Kouji matter.

In that episode, WereGarurumon teams up with Dogmon for the races, as a homage to Wacky Races. It's probably the only reason why I remember that episode.

Mega Kabuterimon (Blue) shows up very little in Digimon media, compared to his much more well known red counterpart, but other than color there's generally very little difference.

As per usual of Digimon recolours (and Digimon sure loves those). That said, there's one important difference: AtlurKabuterimon (Blue) can't fly, unlike the Red counterpart. It's also the original, I believe the red one was created for Adventure, like the vaccine version of MetalGreymon, and both ended up being far more well-known than the original versions for obvious reasons.

Ask and you shall receive!

The game gives us real control for the first time. We're still on a railroad for a while yet, but at least we can do stuff. First thing we do is take a look at our new team.

So, they're level 1 rookies, fresh out of the box. Leo is the same as he was (somehow), and will be pulling most of the weight of the team for a while yet. I put him in the center, with Raph and Mikey on either side, to give him whatever stat boosts they've got.

Agumon's got a few options as a Dragon Digimon, and Salamon gets only Holy options. Both of these are also covered by Coronamon, which means we've got some serious elemental overlap at the moment. But that's not going to be an issue for at least a little while. Let's see what kind of chaos the rest of the world is up to, huh?

I stand corrected, we get to hear it twice. :toot:

For the moment, Sunshine is full of eggs. There are a couple of Tamers standing around looking dumb, but nothing too important.

Thank goodness, the store is okay! Maybe I can get my DigiFarm after all!

:argh: Fine. We'll do this plot thing. We make a beeline for the Union Room, where Glare's supposed to be.

Another evil explosion. Whoever this guy is, he's dedicated to taking over these two, rather than just stunning them like everyone else.

Luckily, the main character is here.

And here we are. The first boss battle of Digimon World: Dawn. Unfortunately, since we've had no opportunities to gain XP, or items, there's not much depth to the fight. Just a back and forth pounding until someone runs out of HP. And he's got 2000 of them. Fortunately for us, his weak attacks are incredibly weak. So, we wail on him for a while with the starting attacks. As long as nothing bad happens we should-

Goddammit. Fortunately, Leo continues to be a goddamn badass, and finishes the fight before Raph can die.

...the first few levels come really easily.

Confirmation, that thing was trying to take over Glare and Ophanimon's minds. With everyone else returned to eggs, the two of them would have run rampant with no one to stop them. Actually a pretty decent plan, all things told. At least the villains are competent.

Tonpei and Cheetah are whining about having to do their jobs after a terrorist attack on the city. These kids are so profoundly unlikeable I have to wonder if it wasn't intentional. Eventually they whine loud enough that Glare calls them over.

TL;DR: The virus hosed poo poo up, and now we can only access the beginner areas.

It's enough for them to send us on a mission to investigate. Or rather, for me to investigate. :smug: Cheetah and friends get told to go back to doing their jobs because, let's be real here, they couldn't find a virus on a porn site.

Our first mission is to investigate Login Mountain. Finally, this game is starting to actually look like an RPG. Now we can just go on a mission and not have to deal with-

Oh, wait, Cheetah, Tonpei, and Kenpa forced their way out of the city. Goddammit. Three guesses where they went.

Tonpei and co.'s plan is to charge into Login Mountain and complete the mission, proving how reliable and dependable they are. By disobeying a direct order. Right. I'm sure that'll work out great. :allears: The three of them head off, and we follow, because someone's gotta bail them out of the mess they just got themselves in.

It's finally time to play the game!

But first, let's not repeat their mistake and make sure we actually go in prepared.

As soon as we walk into the store, we're made privy to a conversation between a Tamer and their Digimon about how cool and awesome Farm Islands are.

And now we can finally get one! :toot:

I skipped through some unimportant dialogue, since I'll be covering the Farm Island properly in another update, but we do still have to name it. It's important to choose a good name, since we'll never be able to change it.

:j:

Now that that's done, the top screen will have our Farm Island. There's nothing in it yet, and setting them up is expensive enough that there won't be for a while, but hey, it's there!

While I'm here, I also stock up on Digiar (Potions) and Digimin (Ethers). Some have larger heals, or can even heal the whole group at once, but we just the cheapest single-target ones for now, ten of each. It's really all we can afford.

Alright, now we can play the game.

The map doesn't have many locations, yet, and most of the ones it does have are pointless at the moment, but soon enough, we'll be cut loose, and be able to wander around a bit between missions. For now, we head to Login Mountain, which is conspiciously marked "Quest", in case we have the attention span of rodents.

Login Mountain is host to, in descending order of abundance: Bird, Dragon, Beast, and Machine Digimon. Most of them are In-Training and Rookies, and won't provide too much trouble, though there will be a couple of Champions as well, once we beat a boss or two.

Cheetah and Tonpei left Kenpa behind after they got separated by a Digimon attack. Man, they can't even be dependable for each other. We send Kenpa home, and promise to go drag the other two back by their ears. This investigation has officially turned into a rescue mission. :nallears:

The first thing to know about DW:Dawn is that all the levels are mazes. You remember the caves in Pokemon? Wandering around, constantly having battles, not even sure which way you're supposed to go to find the exit? Imagine that, but it's the entire game, and half of the branches lead to dead ends that aren't important now, but will be when you're on this other, completely different quest. Which one? Who knows!

And let's not forget that every time you have a random battle, which is probably every few steps, the incredibly distinctive first bar of the background music plays again. And again. And again.

This is the baseline for what zones in this game are like. Not the best, far from the worst, just a standard area that's exactly what you should expect to run into plenty more of. I get used to this, I cope with this. Hell, half of the time, I don't even use a walkthrough for this. I acclimate.

I just want you to keep that in mind for future updates.

Most important to us are Hawkmon, a mediocre bird who turns into a different, bigger mediocre bird, and Patamon, who evolves into fan favorite Angemon. Instead, will be turning him into a bird.

Just bear with me for a few updates, I have my reasons.

Getting a Digimon doesn't require throwing any capture items. Instead, a scan percentage goes up every time you fight one (10% for Rookies, more or less if they're stronger or weaker). When that percentage hits 100%, you can go back to your home, and turn all that scan data into a Digimon. The higher over 100% you go, the more powerful the Digimon you get will be. While this means you don't have to throw Pokeballs and pray, it also means that generally speaking, you'll need to fight at least ten of a specific monster before you can get one for yourself.

Good thing we'll be getting into plenty of fights, huh?

Leveling up also fully restores HP and MP, which is nice.

We find a couple items on our way to play hero. More restoratives, and a Gatedisk, which lets us warp back to the start of the area. Between these and what we bought, this should be enough to get us through.

We wander around samey mountain paths a bit, I get lost a few times, even bungle into a warp-back for a completely different quest. But eventually, finally...

We get our 100% Scans.

Hawkmon is a Wind attribute Attacker whose greatest claim to fame are traits that give it a big boost in Attack and Speed, and a signature move which decreases Wind resistance. Patamon is... fine, I guess? There's nothing really interesting about it, except what it turns into. And Monodramon is just here because I could make him and there's no reason to leave a slot open, but is notable for his absurdly-high starting Aptitude of 38.

With this done, we can start grinding with purpose, with a plan for the future that will probably fall through because I forgot some minor detail. Even the most comprehensive guides are still missing a lot of things, so I'm going to have to be prepared to wing it. (:haw:) But we've got a plan, flawed as it may be, and we're gonna follow it through.

Also we can go rescue the idiots now, I guess.

We walk onto the scene of the two of them about to get murdered by a bird who is so unimpressed with their performances defending themselves that he assumes they're making fun of him. I'm not exaggerating this for a joke, that is actually what happens. Right before we show up, Cheetah's master plan is "beg for forgiveness".

Saviors of the world, Light Fang!

Anyways, let's beat the poo poo out of a bird.

I suppose we could call Aquilamon the first "real" boss. He's got less HP than ????, but hits significantly harder. That's... still really not much, but he has a fairly respectable signature Technique, a single-target attack called Blast Shot with about twice the power of the moves we're throwing around. Thankfully, the maze and grinding means that Ralph and Mikey are both level 11 now, so Leo and Mikey spam Gatling Punch (the first two-hit technique you get access to), while Raph is mostly just on healing duty, until he gets so beat up that he has to swap out for April, who resists Wind.

I honestly couldn't tell you how much of the difference in damage here is level, and how much is the mons.

Success comes quickly enough, either way, and full EXP is granted to everyone who's still conscious at the end of the fight, whether or not they actually did anything. It's enough to push our new guys up to just a couple levels behind Raph and Mikey, at least somewhat justifying my decision to get them before finishing the mission, rather than after.

Back in Plot Town, it's the old Digimon copout, "someone made him act this way, and fighting him freed him!". Hold the applause.

Tonpei gets a proper serving of humble pie, Cheetah says something stupid and runs back home to nurse his bruised ego, and that's mission complete. We warp back to Sunshine, to get our reward for a job well done, and hopefully to hear those morons get chewed out.

Next Digi-Update: Those morons get chewed out.

It should be noted that the game fully expects you to get horribly lost. Go directly from Point A to Point B (through a guide, remembering, or ridiculous luck) and you'll find yourself very underlevelled. This is a Digimon game, you will grind, and the mazes are there so you'll grind while thinking you're actually progressing through the game.

Another way the game encourages grinding while pretending it isn't. You're grinding for both exp and Digimon to join you due to scan percentages. As you might expect, this only gets worse if you want a higher-levelled Digimon considering you'll get less scan percentage per battle. It's not good, and I fully recommend just cheating for 999% everything and just using your favourites because this is a bad system.
Also bolded: minor typo.

This isn't a bad way to start off a plot. I'm going to review everything that's happened.

* Light Fang and Night Crow are friendly rivals who live on opposite sides of "CITY". They're holding a tournament between their members of equal rank.
* While training, Night Crow is attacked by brainwashed digimon controlled by a red cloak.
* The lowest ranked tournament goes on without a hitch.
* ...Except that the red cloak shows up all ominous-like. Chief Julia shares her notes on what it's been up to with her counterpart Chief Glare.
* At this point, everyone on both sides thinks that the red cloak is going to show up tomorrow and start doing typical tournament arc obstructions. They assume they'll be ready for anything it throws at them.
* They're very wrong.
* Instead, this skull virus thing shows up, crushes your side's defenses so badly that you - being slightly less crippled than everyone else - become the second-strongest member of the guild by default, and is narrowly stopped from brainwashing your leader.
* The damage is expensive, with virus scars all over the ground, and the two sides of CITY isolated from most of the world. In particular, from each other. The bridge between Sunshine and Darkmoon has outright become a broken redirect.
* Obviously, everyone's forgotten about the tournament altogether.
* You, and your fellow rookies who were safe in bed during the attack, are assigned to get started on code repair, since you aren't suffering from virus trauma like most of the population.
* Unfortunately, the other rookies are dumb teens, decide work is for losers, and go off to the newly-wild-again frontier to win Darwin awards.
* They are almost killed by a brainwashed boss. But since this is an E-rated game in the end, you turn up in time to save them.

I'll admit, these first few updates were recycled mostly from my old LP, and I was much more vicious about my dislike of the game back then. Getting reacquainted with it is making me soften a bit, remember some of the nostalgia. It's probably cause... and this isn't a good excuse, but Digimon has unequal numbers for Child/Adult/Perfect/Ultimate. So there actually aren't as many Child-Levels as there are Adults. And it's there way of making them pull double duty. And it's just like... "Just let me choose. Don't make any choice super OP, and I can still level down if I want to, but I shouldn't have to."

I don't mind in DW2 for example, having to Jogress two Mons together and get a lower-level one out of it that'll be stronger overall and have a higher level cap. I don't mind buying parts to kit out my tank. I mind that EXP and Bit drops are poo poo so I have to grind like a mother fucker to make them worth while!

I'm fine with the Scan-Capture system, it works, it's cool, I think you don't even have to fight to get the scan data. Making me grind to 6000 Dragon Experience with a Defense Stat of 400 is bullshit of the highest order and you're aware of it. I just want to use my favourite mons.

We arrive back at Shine HQ just in time to catch the tail end of Glare's lecture. He congratulates us on a job well done, and confirms that, yes, the evil internet magic is making bad things happen all over the Digital World, not just in the CITY.

By the way, remember all that busywork that Tonpei and Cheetah were complaining about last update? Well now they have to do ours, too, as punishment for causing so much trouble. Have I mentioned that I love this guy?

With no other dangling plot threads, we're cut loose for a while again.

We run into this event on our way out. Grant Imahara and his partner the giant cock are arguing about whether or not to do quests. There's a quick tour around the building that's completely meaningless when given in text, and a rundown of how quests work.

There are four types of species quests, which are sort of mandatory filler sidequests that grant species EXP and other rewards, and Union quests, which are the story missions. The four available types of Species quests are Dragon, Holy, Aquan, and Bird. (In Dusk, they'd be the other four types, Insect/Plant, Dark, Machine, and Beast.) Each quest must be taken one at a time, and once we've finished all the Species quest, it'll unlock a new Union quest to advance the story.

TL;DR: Do sidequests to unlock main quests.

You can only have one quest active at once, because each of them triggers certain flags and paths being available in their related locations. It's almost like this game wants you to do a bunch of needless walking around. So we're going to start with the Dragon-species counter for now, run by a MetalGreymon. The first quest is to find an L-Mushroom for Veemon.

Veemon is easy enough to find. Just head straight outside and follow the turn. He wants to eat something called an L-Mushroom, found in the Chip Forest. He doesn't say why, but tells us not to tell anyone. Not at all suspicious.

:catdrugs:

But first, a quick detour.

I do, in fact. I have four!

For now, we'll be saving him, as those techniques have a rather absurd MP cost for where we are, but once we can get some proper use out of him, we're going to be doing some crazy things.

Backwards, it gets us a Numemon, the first in a noble tradition of "you screwed up raising this" Digimon. His signature move is throwing poop.

March 7th, 1999 is the date the first episode of the Digimon anime aired in Japan. Backwards, the year is wrong. Forwards, it doesn't actually do anything with either year.

Either way, it gets us a DotShineGreymon, another end-game level Digimon. We could use him now and just breeze through the whole game but, you know what? No. I want this game's shame to be front and center. We're doing this right.

Which also means passing up on the best equipment in the game, the Legend Set, at least for now.

I've got no idea what this password is supposed to mean. It's also the only one that works the same way in both Dawn and Dusk, whatever that tells you.

That done, we can go back to our proper mission.

Despite having the same background music, Chip Forest's Digimon selection is rather different from Login Mountain's. Most Digimon here are Insect/Plant, with a few Beasts. Strangely, this is also home to Gummymon and Kokomon, the game's first source of Holy and Dark EXP. The earliest way you can get an Angemon is by beating up babies until you learn to be holy.

Digimon!

Now that Splint is a decent level, we can start on the path of what he's really for.

Tokomon was also available in Login Mountain, but raw, its Aptitude is only 11, and we need him at level 12. So, Patamon first.

Finding the Forest Key opens the first of many gates in the game, which will allow us to explore further into the zone (including where our quest is).

Goburimon is one of the tougher enemies that we have access to right now, a Beast Attacker with a resistance to Earth skills (which includes most physical attacks). They're strong, but too slow to be of much use as anything but an obstacle at the moment. Their weakness to Holy means Leo and Mikey clean them up quickly, at least.

This mysterious portal is off in one corner of the forest. We can't quite handle what's on the other side just yet (even the regular enemies are making us use items now and again), but we'll be back soon.

Our goal, the L-Mushroom, is sitting in a corner in the darker part of the forest. There's no guards, but the battles here are tougher, (including Level 18 Kumamon), so it evens out.

:japan: Trivia: From Digimon World 3 onward, Bearmon was localized as Kumamon. This caused a bit of confusion when the Digimon Frontier anime localized the name of an entirely different Digimon as Kumamon. Neither of them have Kumamon as their Japanese name, it was just a case of the left hand not knowing what the right hand was doing.

Digimon!

Our last find before we go back is a Novice Cloak, our first piece of Equipment. It raises Speed, Defense, and Evasion by a bit, but in such small numbers that the only real use for it is giving to weak, low-level Digimon. Except there's no reason to keep them on the front lines, so they're mostly just vendor trash.

A Tentomon also does us the service of giving us a rare drop, a Thunder Robe Alpha. This is a slightly bigger Defense boost, as well as a 30% increase in Thunder defense. Useful, considering how many enemies here use the element.

Raph gets it because he's still kind of fragile.

Veemon thanks us for a job well done. Now he can eat the mushroom and feel happy. I'm not twisting this for comedic effect, that's actually what he says. :catdrugs:

Our reward is 60 Tamer Points (I'll cover that later), 3280 bits, a Bronze Plate armor, and the feeling that we may or may not have just done something illegal.

Next on the Agenda is the Holy counter, a quest to find the missing Tapirmon.

Tapirmon went missing in Thriller Ruins, home to all kinds of dangerous Dark and Machine Digimon. We have to rescue him right away!

Eh, I'm sure he'll be fine.

Chrysalimon, on the other hand, shows up fairly often these days, and got its start as the Champion level form-not-appearing-in-this-film for Diaboromon, villain of that Digimon movie you might have seen in theaters when you were younger, with "Kids in America" for a theme song, a third act that came out of loving nowhere and made no sense, and a horrible lead-in short that we shall not speak of. Go look up the movie, though, its history is kind of fascinating.

Infermon's pretty rad design-wise. But for some reason, I like Chryalimon's design a bit more. Floating cocoon with spiked tendrils just...feels right. Also you'll see it a lot if you play Digimon Story Cyber Sleuth since it's a boss you fight right at the start and WILL see it's data come up a lot if you go through the Digidex Field Guide. Also, matter of preference, I like the designs of Dusk's digimon more than Dawn.

You think you have the wherewithal to figure out my puzzle vagina?

Our first mission finally got us enough money to buy something besides basic healing items.

Equipment!

Equipment comes in three basic types:

Weapons, which raise Attack...

Accessories, which raise other stats, and/or status resistances...

And Armor, which is boring and useless.

Most equipment requires the wearer be of a certain level, usually a multiple of 10, and some requires them also be a certain species.

The Broad Rapier, for example, requires the wielder be Holy, but gives a good bit more Attack than the matching all-species weapon, and also raises Spirit.

Nothing says we can only equip one. :kamina:

We spend the rest of our money on a couple of Bronze Blades that can be passed around for whoever needs them. For now, they go to April, to boost her already respectable attack.

Doing as much damage as possible as quickly as possible, lets us blaze through the random encounters that much quicker, even if it means we're a little bit more fragile when the enemies do survive long enough to get a turn. Therefore, the best use of your money is usually to stack as many species-specific weapons as you can afford onto your 'mons, changing out only when you run into a particularly beefy boss.

The first half of why Digimon choice is important, Traits are small baked-in boosts depending on the specific Digimon in question. Leo has two, Powerful 2 which raises his Attack, and Fire Aura2, which increases his Fire reistance. Most Digimon have two to four Traits, with higher-stage ones getting both more, and more powerful ones.

Each Digimon also has a Support Ability, which grants a small stat boost to Digimon directly next to it in battle. Keeping your Digimon close together allows them to support one-another, while spreading them apart lets them avoid getting hit by wide attacks that hit multiple sections. I keep mine close, for the most part, because I can't be arsed to look up who gets wide moves, but it's an interesting little system all the same.

Every Digimon has Techniques, the attacks used in battle. Most are Equipped Techniques, ones earned by leveling up that can be kept when the Digimon changes stages, or even into entirely different creatures, allowing you to customize your movesets as much as your patience for grinding will allow.

However, each Digimon also has one Special Technique that can never be passed on, and instead will be replaced by that Digimon's Special Tech. Leo's is God Dangit Holy Shoot, a single-target Holy attack that completely fails to stand out against his two other almost-identical single-target Holy attacks. Mikey's is also Holy Shoot, and Raph's is Pepper Breath, essentially the same move, just dealing Fire damage instead.

...they'll get better as we progress.

I started playing my copy of Dusk again because of this LP. Picked the attacker pack and quickly remembered how much time it takes to get through encounters without offensive equipment.

I'm a drat fool and spent the money from the first few quests on farm island nonsense that won't be helpful for a while. Still beat the next story boss with little problems though. (Though that might be because I have a champion level mon due to me grinding out scan data in the area it's in and one of my starters hit his level cap.)

I already have 4 hours of playtime if you're wondering.

Degenerate and regenerate between Baby levels and Rookie as often as you can. It shouldn't take that long, and you'll get bonus stats every time. Don't bother running around with your Digimon at their max level if you can avoid it.

My usual approach has always been "attempt to go up a stage within the level cap, if I can't, degenerate -> regenerate until I can." I'm not running around with capped Digimon but I usually let them get there before I start thinking about where to send them next.

Admittedly this approach tends to make the late game a bit painful for me, so maybe I should be doing a bit more degenerating.

I have finally replaced the images in my first update with better versions, edited a thing or two for clarity, and added a little GIF of the crowd cheering for Sayo. With our shopping done, and Leo packing as much power as we can afford at this point, we can finally go rescue that missing Tapirmon!

On the other hand, he's waited this long, what's one more little detour?

Despite appearances, the circuitboard zones inside these portals aren't much different from the area they're connected to. Not even the BGM changes.

What does change is the music and the encounter tables. Random battles in the zones are handled on a per-screen basis, and the circuitboards tend to have a nice selection of the tougher enemies in the area, which means more focused, less filler-y battles. This is useful if you're doing something like grinding for Beast EXP on the Kumamon and Goburimon or, say, collecting Scan Data for Tentomon.

But more on that later.

The prizes aren't great, but considering the entrance is one-way until you get to the exit on the other end, they're decent enough to make it worth the cheaper healing items you'll probably burn on your way through.

On our way out, April learns the first of what should hopefully be many multiple-zone attacks. Some hit multiple adjacent zones, while others hit the same zones no matter what is or isn't in there to target. Small Tornado, the move in question here, hits two zones with one space between them, with a chance to reduce Wind resistance on top of that.

Yes, moves like this do slightly undermine the "clump for stats, spread to avoid attacks" mechanic, don't they?

We also get two more Thunder Robes and a few Digiars, most of which are spent on a little more grinding.

Out with the old, in with the new.

Dinohumon, Monodramon's next stage, has a lot of the same problems as Goburimon, and the requirements to get them are too high to be practical at the moment, anyways. They can also turn into Airdramon, who is incredibly useful... but you have to find one manually before you can make more. C'est la Digi-vie.

Mondo would spend the rest of his days languishing in our PC box, but...

Waste not want not!

DNA Digivolution has two styles. The one you know requires the initiator to have met certain stat and level requirements, and be fused with a certain partner. These requirements aren't actually listed anywhere in-game as far as I know, so there's a lot of trial-and-error involved if you don't use a guide.

The rest of the time, the initiator simply devours integrates the other Digimon's data, granting a small boost in stats and sometimes moves.

:japan: Trivia: 'Jogress Evolution', the Japanese name for the process, is a portmanteau of "joint" and "progress". It's an alright term, I guess. The act of undoing a Jogress Evolution (which is not possible in this game) is called Partitioning, which is kind of clever.

The reward for Raph's act of cannibalism isn't much, just a couple of stat points, but stronger, higher-level Digimon will result in better rewards. It's a nice way to get some use out of all of those box-fillers you're soon to have lying around.

Mondo's replacement is Ringo, a Tentomon! A marvelous surprise for anyone who didn't read the first four paragraphs of this update. Tentomon's Traits are Protect 2, a Defense boost, and Money Saver 1, the higher levels of which might actually be useful at some point, and its Special Tech is Super Shocker, another move that doesn't have anything in particular going for it.

Meanwhile, with Splint having reached level 12, he can finally find his true calling...

Running the Smashville public museum.

Falcomon is a Speed-Type Bird, and while that does mean that Blathers' offense and defense are rather average, he will almost always be going first, which allows us to either stack weapons on him for an opening attacker, or armor for boss fights and get a reliable user of healing items. His traits increase his Speed even further, as well as his accuracy.

I'm gonna be using him for quite a while.

Anyways, right, we were supposed to be rescuing some tapioca or something, weren't we?

Thriller Ruin is... interesting. As the game proceeds, it will have an incredibly deep and varied encounter pool, but at the moment...

This is everything we can fight. We've already met Kokuwamon before but here at the proper level, it's frustratingly beefy, and has a nasty tendency to paralyze with Lightning Arrow. Pagumon is another tiny, almost harmless source of Dark EXP, with a weirdly high droprate for Digiar150S.

It's not difficult, just annoying.

Tapirmon's only one screen away. Another quest with no boss, he's just kinda hanging out, I guess, and shoos us back home to tell Gummymon he's fine.

Whatever, we still got paid. 60 Tamer Points(:toot: ), 3280 bits (:toot: ), and a Novice Blade (:confuoot: ).

More shopping happens.

The next quest is from a Patamon, near where Veemon was in the last update.

On the way I make a detour at the Children Of The Corn Tutorial Infodump Corner, and confirm that all that the game says about Spirit is that it "increases both attack and defense by a little bit". Very helpful!

Now's as good a time as any to mention that Digimon always march in place, but humans stand perfectly still, just rotating whenever you interact with them. It's not really that noticeable most of the time, but there's nothing else going on here, just five children standing perfectly still, staring at you, and impersonally dispensing basic gameplay tips from a giant list of topics.

It's fine, though. Definitely nothing to worry about, just the designers being lazy, not some kind of conspiracy of-

How did you know my name?! :tinfoil:

Patamon makes Red Shoes for a living, but is out of Bark and Paint Oil, so we need to go to Login Mountain to get some more.

I don't even know where to start with that. :psyduck:

Whatever, fetch quest number three, let's do this.

There are two item chests put into places that were dead ends before, but other than that, Login is almost exactly the same as last time we were here, and none of it is even remotely a threat any more.

First chest's not too far, 'hidden' barely a bit off the main path.

And they were actualy kind enough to block off the back half of the area to keep us from running off on a wild Goosemon Digi-Chase. I'm kind of surprised.

Second item's actually in the same screen as the entrance, you just have to go around a detour two screen away to get to it.

I could use a GateDisk from here, but I decide to hoof it back the old-fashioned way so I can get a little more Bird and Dragon EXP.

Our reward this time is fairly substantial considering it was actually easier than the previous two. 120 Tamer Points, 4080 Bits, and another Novice Cloak.

Is anyone else starting to feel like the game is patronizing us?
