Contreras is in left because he's hitting .296/.355/.510 (122 wRC+) in 110 PA's dating back to the series against the Yankees. With Bryant in a mini-slump Willson and Rizzo are arguably the only two functioning bats in the lineup (Heyward was hitting he's still got a scraped up hand) so it makes sense Maddon wants to work him into the lineup even if he's not catching.
