This will be fun to watch considering miners are already jumping ship to pascal. :munch:

I hope somebody buys that as pic an avatar for Fruit Chewy. I don't mine bitcoins so I am too poor.

I'm hoping it'll last a bit longer so the miners will start buying up 1080Ti that they'll have to sell in 2-3 months because they won't be profitable after power costs. :getin:

I feel bad for people who actually buy video cards just for mining. Their RROI is basically hosed without some kind of "oh Eth suddenly increased in value by 1000%" event. This same thing happened in Bitcoin but with ASICs; bitlords were buying ASIC mining hardware with no actual hope of ever, ever recouping their hardware costs because a bunch of guys in China started building huge warehouses full of ASICs

Try this, some chinese company offering preorders for mining devices with a bunch of RX480 MXM modules, then hiking the price on already purchased devices and ultimately falling back to RX460 chips with late July delivery dates.
People apparently bought thosands of them.
Turns out they're "testing" and "burning in" customers devices in their own mining farm and start shipping them as they become unprofitable. :wiggle:
'course a couple of them burned down for good measure.

It seems like there's quite a bit of pent up demand for Nvidia cards so I don't expect the giant crash that we anticipated.
Prices will probably correct a bit but I doubt we'll see big bargains like the last time people sold off their GPUs. RX480/RX580s on the other hand...

Ah there's your problem: Gsync causes ~3 ms input delay, turn it off and your rating should skyrocket.

eames
May 9, 2009

yes gsync does add latency vs uncapped framerates

http://www.blurbusters.com/gsync/preview2/
http://www.blurbusters.com/gsync/gsync101-input-lag/

that's why ~FPS professionals~ play without *sync but realistically nobody is going to notice the difference

I don't understand the scam in that post; the seller gets his card back and the buyer gets his money back, who's getting scammed here exactly?

Is he implying that the buyer is a mole planted by FedEx to get people to ship video cards back and forth?

The idea is that some people bought these cards while mining was profitable, used them to mine and now return them with a fake reason because it becomes unprofitable (and card prices are going down, so the seller loses the price difference). Ebay's buyer protection allows these refunds for 180 days. The reddit thread claims that some buyers send back older cards with different serial numbers and keep the newer ones.

I don't know where this is headed but I hope it leads to $600 for my 1070.

If this silly trend continues the people who bought a Pascal card at release date will be able to sell their card for more than MSRP the day before Volta is out. :psyduck:
