could that have had anything to do with this 2015 state law?

Out-of-state college students, who often vote Democratic, would have to obtain an Ohio driver's license or license plate if they want to vote in Ohio, under a bill that passed the Legislature [...]

Democrats have called on Kasich to line-item veto the requirement, which was added to a bill that pays for repairs to roads and bridges. The provision states that new residents who register to vote in Ohio must obtain an Ohio driver's license and register their vehicles here within 30 days. Violators of the provision, who choose to keep a driver's license or license plate from another state, could face a minor misdemeanor.

I'm guessing that kasich did not line-item veto that requirement.

just cheap stuff at a massive markup to trick hipsters into paying for incredibly ironic "authentic" branding

quote:

While she did not become our 45th President, Hillary Rodham Clinton’s success leading up to the most recent election inspired the folks at Republic Restoratives in DC to release a blended rye whiskey in tribute. So many elements of this particular bottling speak to the unwavering strength and poise shown by the former First Lady; for example, the final blend was cut to proof using water from a New York maple syrup farm in honor of her prior NY Senate experience. Rye was chosen as the predominant grain because, as distillery co-owner Pia Carusone has noted, it is one of the most “resilient” to work with, drawing parallels to Clinton’s political career.

Carusone supplements her distillery life with a love of politics, having campaigned for both Clinton and congresswoman Gabby Giffords before her. This whiskey, held up as a “tribute to women in history,” was not distilled in-house, but instead blended from Tennessee stock. A one-year and three-and-a-half-year rye were selected from another distillery to create a final product that is “stronger together than [these whiskies] are apart.”...

The Takeaway

It's an honor just to be nominated. Without losing sight of this powerful tribute, the whiskey blend itself seems like a bit of a rush job, lacking cohesion and satisfying rye character. Those who typically enjoy sweeter bourbons but are now seeking out the 'training wheels' of rye whiskey will find solace here, as will collectors of political merchandise. I'd rather give $40 directly to Emily's List and pick up a nice, reliable $30 bottle of rye at the local liquor store.

3/5

hey whoa, a passing 3/5. this rye is clearly more competent than hillary

STFU about Single Payer. People's health care is at risk right now, especially millions of women and POC. Shut up about your purity legislation that would disproportionately help white people, and potentially would hurt the same people trying to save the ACA. Stop making GBS threads on people who are doing real work to save some lives. For once, look in the loving mirror, learn some humility, and start working, or shut up, step aside, and never speak again.

I get, in light of everything, why the push for single payer is important, and the momentum towards positive change is definitely in its favor, vs. something like French multipayer.

Having said that, I think it's important to remember that there's a significant chunk of people for whom single payer won't be a significant material benefit - because they're healthy and don't have medical costs currently. Yes, of course there's a very significant peace of mind that single payer would give, but the economic malaise of poo poo like the gig economy isn't going to be ameliorated by providing health coverage.

So talk about it, but don't make it the entirety of your pitch.

actually singlepayer would help people trapped in the gig economy cause they would have benefits and health care!

regardless, no-ones making singlepayer the entirety of their pitch. the dems refuse to have a pitch, and the left has a plethora of ideas aside from singlepayer the thirdwayers deride as childish and unpragmatic.

the most hosed up thing about "singlepayer is for helping white people!!!" argument is the how many black people don't have adequate healthcare and don't have adequate insurance.

my ex-roomate was black, and he and I went seperate ways 8 or 9 years ago. 4 years ago, i heard from his girlfriend that he had died. he had had an asthma attack and he couldn't afford an emergency inhaler. back when he and i were living together, there used to be an otc inhaler you could get from walmart that he used. apparently they stopped selling that and he didn't really have any way to treat his asthma anymore. and one day he had a nasty attack and suffocated.

if we had singlepayer he'd still be alive. if we had sane drug pricing and otc laws, he'd still be alive. over here, i can buy an emergency inhaler, no prescription, for approximately $15. there's just no reason he had to die, and it's entirely the US' hosed up healthcare system to blame for his entirely avoidable death
