Whats happenin

Went into a mostly random thread:

It's really very simply. Republicans fall in line. Democrats dont. This is because we have a monopoly on critical thinking skills. Unfortunately, it also means that we've convinced a whole wing of the party not to vote for 'wall street' candidates, conveniently forgetting that that's literally all candidates because it turns out wall street, whether they should be or not, actually is important.

quote:

bernie is simultaneously so unpopular that a candidate in his image would have lost but so popular that he is making it so centrist dems lose every election?

quote:

sorry for the stealth edit: but yes. It turns out you can be both. If, say, the tea parties hadn't voted trump, he would have lost. Every vote matters, and every person who stays home because the democrats aren't idiologically pure is partly responsible for the mess we're in now.

Of course, gerrymandering and voter suppression are also to blame but we should focus on the thing that might actually change.

How the gently caress can people think Single Payer is racist or sexist? WHAT THE gently caress?

They don't actually think it, it's just extremely important for the type of person who typically spews this poo poo to paint their more progressive peers as nasty people who don't care about women and minorities because at the end of the day their personal goal is "end racism/sexism/etc." and then magically benefit from the current economic status quo.

Dec 27, 2005

Note that when it comes to the people who spout this poo poo, you can usually find some hilarious racism/sexism/homophobia/transphobia in their history; or, in the case of folks like Joan Walsh, get them to just meltdown right into it really easily lol

obama basically had two choices when it came to the ACA and his legacy: either push it as a stepping stone to actual good health policy and thus have a legacy of building to that; or try to continue to push the ACA as a good program that works for everyone and is the best and just repeat that a bunch until everyone goes "sure".

unsurprisingly, he picked the largely selfish option because he wanted a bigger legacy than just "paved the way for single-payer".
