A fair number of them seem to be NEETs, living with their parents or on disability, on the spectrum, unemployable, with no social skills at all and no status in the community. There was no point in history where fathers were happily handing off their daughters to guys like that. It seems like there are more now, but that really could just be gathering together making their group look bigger than it is. Instead of doing basic chores in return for grub and being allowed to sleep in the barn, these barely functional guys spend their days online being angry at how hard they have it these days.
