"How would you like me to make your life a living hell, Solo?" "Well Jabba, I'm not really ready for a relationship yet, but thank you for asking."

Neurosis posted:while i generally agree some things were pretty cynical like diversity bingo and the reshoots they did because people might've been upset about terrorism (iirc there's still one vestige of this where a guy just blows himself up in the first attack on the stormtroopers which was funny). also cutting the longing tender stroke the dying asian blind dude gave his boyfriend for the chinese audience lolol. i gather the reshoots are what led to the main chick's really hammy speeches. vader going apeshit on the rebels in the corridor was cool because it was totally unexpected. I also like that lame joke he makes. Like sure, he's an unstoppable murder machine and the human embodiment of raw primal fear, but he's also a huge dork.

ElGroucho posted:I tried rewatching A New Hope as an adult I bet you think The Godfather is a boring movie about a bunch of greasy men speaking Italian. Sorry it's not an amazing special effects tour de force. Might I suggest the latest installment of Michael Bay's Transformers, you philistine!

"We've become bored with watching actors give us phony emotions. We are tired of pyrotechnics and special effects. While the world he inhabits is, in some respects, counterfeit, there's nothing fake about Solo himself. No scripts, no cue cards. It isn't always The Tragedy of Darth Plagueis the Wise, but it's genuine. It's a life."
