there's no way the CEO and founder of the world's second largest advertising/marketing company with access to untold amounts of data about what people of different political leanings like to see and hear could possibly have a shot at the presidency :downs:

he'll probably lose, but not before running a campaign so blatantly algorithm-driven and focus-grouped that it makes Hillary look genuine by comparison, and absolutely obliterating everyone in the primaries as a result

I can certainly hope that even the most limpdicked DNC goblin wouldn't want anything to do with a guy who maxed out his donations to loving Liddle Marco and Paul Ryan but drat it's hard to expect anything at all from those freaks

it's a pretty common thing among business: donate to both sides so the winner is in your pocket no matter how the election goes. I doubt the centrists, who are all about being pro-business, would hold it against him. most of the people he donated to were up-and-comers who either held a lot of power or were on track to

the right seems to be pretty forgiving too. hell, Trump was a Democrat for a few years - and Jeb even tried to use that against him in the primaries. no one's going to give a poo poo about Zuck's donor history

I posted this in the Trump thread but I just realized that Facebook probably loving loves the rise of openly white supremacist movements because it's a tremendous market opportunity

companies that target their ads toward white supremacists via conventional means (like running ads on Breitbart or white supremacist sites, or running racist ads) face the risk of getting caught and seeing a backlash as a result. that makes neo-Nazis a difficult demographic to advertise to

Facebook advertising is so much more targeted that it doesn't really have that problem

hell, FB has already gotten in trouble once when someone noticed that their "multicultural affinity segments" could be used to violate the Fair Housing act by running "whites only" ads for housing

most American Jews subscribe to less-strict variants of Judaism, and even then they're usually not that observant. he probably doesn't keep kosher or observe Shabbat

it's a significant point of conflict between Israeli Judaism (which is dominated by insane ultra-conservative sects with an iron grip on political power) and American Judaism (which is pretty progressive and mostly doesn't give a poo poo about stuff)

You know how you feel when you think of the genocide of the natives, the enslavement of the blacks, Great Britain's treatment of Irish people and The Pajeets? How about when you read of the sorts of things that the USSR did to the peasant farmers? A mere 50 years after the Civil Rights Act ended racism in the United States, it is so unacceptable to be racist that even an accidental racial slur at the wrong time can result in complete and utter career and social destruction.
I truly believe that mere decades after Incel Rights bills are passed, the sort of things that normies currently say to us here will be so horrible and wrong as to be simply unthinkable.

Zuckerberg says the state's cash handout program "provides some good lessons for the rest of the country."

The dividend averages $1000 (or more) per person. "That can be especially meaningful if your family has five or six people," says Zuckerberg in a post he wrote about the payment.

"This is a novel approach to basic income in a few ways. First, it's funded by natural resources rather than raising taxes. Second, it comes from conservative principles of smaller government, rather than progressive principles of a larger safety net," says Zuckerberg. "This shows basic income is a bipartisan idea."

It's easy to see why people would believe in the Singularity. I mean the Basilisk.

I'm just some idiot but I've thought about it for almost 10 minutes and even if every proposition of Roko's Basilisk were proven true beyond a shadow of a doubt, it's simple to show that you can beat it by completely ignoring it anyway so it literally does not matter if it's true or not. That's why I was wondering if it was maybe some kind of joke.

not only did people believe it, but they thought that knowing about it would literally make it more likely to happen (since this hypothetical blackmail scenario doesn't work if the idea never occurred to you), which is why the sorts of communities that tend to believe in this stuff actually banned any mention of it.

these types will often claim that they don't believe in the Basilisk, but they'll also prevent discussion of it and refuse to tell unfamiliar people about it in order to protect them from "memetic hazard", so I'm pretty sure they do believe it and just don't want to admit to having nightmares about a dumb philosophy trick

yeah, I'm sure the incredibly wealthy white CEO who was born into money is actually a secret socialist and reliable ally of the working class

sure, zuck has spoken positively about a basic income. but the basic income he was talking about was the Alaska oil money, which he praised because "it's funded by natural resources rather than raising taxes" and "it comes from conservative principles of smaller government". he then went on to talk positively about public land being owned by private corporations that exploit it for profit and pay out a dividend from the profit to the residents. he explicitly stated that he thinks "most effective safety net programs create an incentive or need to work rather than just giving a handout", and praised an Alaska subsistence fishing program for forcing poor people to fish for their food rather than just handing them the fish for free

despite how much avoids talking about issues, he's still managed to reveal that he's a conservative shithead who's never said a word about UHC and thinks a "basic income" should be paid for by selling the country's natural resources off to private companies

Zuck is the new Ron Paul: a conservative shithead, but conservative in a different way from conservative orthodoxy, so people whose brains have been broken by the two-party establishment gravitate towards him, openly ignoring the dozens of bad positions he holds just because he once held a position that didn't sound completely terrible if you twisted it the right way

it's been mostly forgotten now, but he actually fired all of Facebook's fact checkers and news curators a year or two back because the far right were whining that Facebook was being biased by not posting conspiracy theory garbage

his one and only goal is avoiding the criticism, or at least avoiding the blame and media attention. he wants to look like he's doing something about it so Congress stops calling him up to complain, but he doesn't actually want to suppress the propaganda and conspiracy stuff since that'll just get the cranks whining at him again

Have you ever noticed that Facebook can "read" pictures too? It automatically tries to recognize objects in photos and labels them with a list of what it believes they contain ("May contain: " etc.), and has done so for years. Ostensibly, it's for accessibility: letting blind people what's in all the photos that get posted. There must be something else going on, though

same reason they're running facial recognition on pictures: to discover information and potential connections that people don't put into their text posts
