Things I want to happen this off-season: 1) McDavid and Draisaitl get signed to under $20 mil combined 2) Peter Chiarelli and Kris Russell get shot into the sun 3) The Flames relocate and leave Calgary with no NHL team

With Yakupov, he has the skills to be at least a top 6 RW, even a 1st line RW. The problem is that he does not have the hockey IQ necessary to think the game as a top 6 RW and use his skills efficiently, which has really limited his ability as a player. But if you pair him with a center (or linemates) that can make use of his skills like McDavid then he's actually fine. Looking at his season with St. Louis, he only had 9 points in 40 games but his problem there was that Hitchcock then Yeo didn't make use of him. 4th line minutes, limited PP usage, healthy scratch multiple times during the season. His lack of production there shouldn't be surprising. So the fact that somebody suggested he play for the Pens 4th line just makes me laugh, because I could already see PAS complaining about him not producing despite the fact he wouldn't be put in a position to succeed in that scenario. I do think he'll be a good cheap pick-up for some team, a "reclamation" type player. The only question is whether or not the team he signs with will actually use him efficiently. Say something like sheltered middle 6 minutes and on one of the PP units. I hope they do since I still like Yakupov and want him to succeed.

Both Hischier and Patrick will be fine. There's no need for either of them to be in junior any longer.

https://twitter.com/TSNRyanRishaug/status/879835652644192256 So Chiarelli's only move thus far has been trading Eberle for Strome, which is a downgrade in RW. Otherwise he's going to go into the season with almost the exact same roster as last year and approximately $9 mil in cap space after Draisaitl signs his new contract. Sekera is still hurt, there's no replacement for him other than going "okay just let Nurse/Benning play on the 2nd pair and hope for the best". The Oilers lack of scoring depth still hasn't been addressed, in fact it's been hurt by trading Eberle for a lesser player. And rather than using any cap space they're just going to let it go to waste, even though this is the last year of McDavid's ELC and they could easily fit in a couple of pieces on one year deals. Not to mention that last year was a case of everything that could have gone right did (right up until the Ducks series), and you're literally banking on that happening yet again. This is going to end in one of two ways. The Oilers stay healthy, McDavid has the greatest season ever and they win the Stanley Cup, or they miss the playoffs. No matter what happens, fire Chiarelli.
