Apparently Vancouver re-signed Rodin for 1 year at 700k which I think is a pretty good move considering what he did in the SHL and how he looked in the pre-season last year. He's certainly worth a low money shot anyways - especially as no one knows what he can do if he's healthy.

They are also apparently looking to sign Sam Gagner which I don't know how I feel about.

In addition to Gagner and Del Zotto, they're also looking at Burmistrov:

Not really sure what the end goal is for Jim Benning with these signings, given that they're supposed to be rebuilding.

Despite Chiarelli saying any offer sheet will be matched, I can guarantee you there will be no offer sheet to Draisaitl because NHL GMs hate giving offer sheets now, even though this is one of the better times to offer sheet a player.

So the Oilers signed 7 players who'll all likely play for Bakersfield next season, 3 of which (Rattie, Lowe, Ferlin) come from the 2011 draft. Normally this wouldn't be noteworthy, except this means that out of the 47 players the Oilers have signed to a contract next season (including Draisaitl), 10 of them are from the 2011 draft:
Ryan Nugent-Hopkins (1st overall)
Adam Larsson (4th overall)
Ryan Strome (5th overall)
Oscar Klefbom (19th overall)
Ty Rattie (32nd overall)
Keegan Lowe (73rd overall)
Dillon Simpson (92nd overall)
Brian Ferlin (121st overall)
Laurent Brossoit (164th overall)
Iiro Pakarinen (184th overall)

What is with Peter Chiarelli and his love of 2011 draft picks, aside from the fact the Bruins won the Cup that year.

I, too, hate having the best player in the game locked up for 8 years and for $1.75 mil under the maximum salary. How else are we supposed to pay a 3rd pairing D like Kris Russell 2nd pairing money if he's gonna be so greedy???

I really hope that Marleau stays healthy and refuses to waive his NMC, forcing the Leafs to actually his contract count against the salary cap when 2019-20 rolls around.

Right now, Caps have roughly $4.7 mil left in cap space and still need to re-sign Burakovsky and Grubauer on top of getting at least 2 more forwards and 1 more defenseman. Their cap situation is unpleasant right now.

They could theoretically make the ECF if they keep the core healthy. Two of the recent Atlantic contenders in the Habs and Panthers took some big, ugly, steps backwards and no-one has really stepped up to the plate.
Having said that, there's no way Nylander, Matthews and Marner play as many games this year as they did last year. I'm not sold that they'll be contenders for the cup, but there's a real chance they'll come out on top of the garbage pile sundae that is the Atlantic.

I think you're forgetting that Tampa is in the Atlantic and really loving good when healthy. I mean, they're even willing to handicap themselves by signing Girardi! Isn't that nice of them?
