I have one of those for work and it's such a joke

I'd rather hit the number keys at the top than try to use those keys and secondguessing myself all the time regarding accuracy

I pray everyday for the death of expansion cards via utilization of thunderbolt everywhere

external gpus will be the only gpus, besides the ones that come integrated with your motherboard or cpu chipset

does anyone still get dedicated sound cards? creative labs still sells PCIe sound blaster cards...

welcome to the future, same as the past

htc vive requires three cables to connect just the vr, not including the controllers - hdmi, power and usb

I think you can get away with just one thunderbolt cable if you redid everything, so there's a spot of improvement.

At least we'll get away from the "no mom, that's the serial port, you want the blue vga port with three rows" support calls

i figured the dell out, numlock toggles what the buttons do when fn is pressed, so i think i was doing the right stuff earlier but numlock was off so i was moving the arrow keys in a empty url bar or text file or something

ok so a nvidia gtx 1080 ti 4gb is a good price and approx 20% faster than what i got and twice as much ram and maybe can recover half the $250 ish price with sale of old vidya card so kinda a no brainer

coz blender/cycles cant render envirnonment textures or do volume stuff on OPEN cl and only on cuda so need nvidia for that

because getting nVidia's top of the line GPU but only 4GB RAM seems like a waste.

like, seems you would be hobbling its performance with only 4GB if you wanted to be able to run games maxed out. super high end games are starting to be able to utilize it all. and if you're not gonna run high end games maxed out at high resolutions, why get a 1080?

a 1060 with 6GB RAM seems like it'd be better value and performance for your money than a 1080 with 4GB.

Consumers have access to top of the line server hardware from just a few years ago at very low prices. You can get an itanium server off ebay for like $150 and run your choice of BSD 10 or CentOS 4 for example.

do they even make 1080s with only 4GB? because i'm looking on newegg and don't see any. trying to search for 1080s with only 4GB on camelcamelcamel brings up old, non-1080 GPUs and weak sauce laptops.

also holy poo poo am I glad I bought my 1060 before prices went up. got one with 6GB RAM for less/same than what 3GB models are going for now LOL.

more stuff in vram = faster

GPU accelerated offline renders is probably less dependent on it, but more vram = better is still true.

yeah i believe that but word is that for rendering scenes like i'm talking about its all or nothing, if the scene can't fit in gpu it can't render at all, and if it can, well, it can

and that's not been an issue so far with 2gb

win2k is good, you can develop for Sega Saturn, Playsation 1, Dreamcast, etc and there's lots of old software. you could just virtualize and emulate majority of things but yospos
