For the first time ever, the NBA has decided to do an awards show to showcase the highlight performances of its athletes. 12 awards will be given out tonight, and the ones with finalists are as follows: NBA Most Valuable Player: Finalists are: James Harden, G, Houston Rockets Kawhi Leonard, F, San Antonio Spurs Russell Westbrook, G, Oklahoma City Thunder Rookie of the Year: Dario Saric, F, Philadelphia 76ers Malcolm Brogdon, G, Milwaukee Bucks Joel Embiid, C, Philadelphia 76ers Sixth Man Award: Eric Gordon, G, Houston Rockets Andre Iguodala, F, Golden State Warriors Lou Williams, G, Houston Rockets/Los Angeles Lakers Coach of the Year Mike D'Antoni, Houston Rockets Gregg Popovich, San Antonio Spurs Erik Spoelstra, Miami Heat Most Improved Player Giannis Antetokounmpo, F, Milwaukee Bucks Nikola Jokic, C, Denver Nuggets Rudy Gobert, C, Utah Jazz Defensive Player of the Year Kawhi Leonard, F, San Antonio Spurs Draymond Green, F, Golden State Warriors Rudy Gobert, C, Utah Jazz Other awards tonight include Executive of the Year, Teammate of the Year, the Sportsmanship Award, and the Community Assist Award. The All-Defense teams and All-Rookie teams were released earlier today to drive interest into tonight's show. This is probably the most NFL thing the NBA could do, but it's a chance to see the best players recognized for their achievements, which is nice. The show begins at 9 PM EST on TNT
