Now the organization has changed and there are few players I know.

That was a nice little tournament. No bad matches. No MOTY-candidates, but Emi vs. Trish Adora, Bille Starkz vs Rachel Armstrong, the semifinal with the winners of those two matches and the final were good.

Billie is great and Marina Shafir is getting pretty good

I attended the show in Miami last night. It was unlike any wrestling event I've ever been to.

To set the stage: this wasn't a normal wrestling show. It was held in connection with Art Basel which is an international art fair. The people that showed up to this thing were not your normal wrestling fans. Most of them were just there to experience something trendy or different and seemingly had never seen live wrestling before. This was the most diverse and attractive wrestling crowd I've ever seen. Men wearing sport coats and dress shoes with no socks, some women dressed to the nines, and some people just dressed in a bizarre manner (which is normal for Miami). Everyone wasn't dressed up, but way more people were than you'd see at any other wrestling show. This was also the most even male to female fan ratio I've ever seen at a wrestling event.

The venue was unique. This show was held in an outdoor skate park under an I-95 overpass. There were no seats. Everyone was standing for the entire show. Some climbed different sections of the skate park to get a better vantage point of the ring.

It was an incredible atmosphere. Even though half the audience hadn't been to live wrestling before, they were open minded and a long for the ride. It was fascinating to hear their reactions to basic pro wrestling tropes like the ref distraction spot in a tag team match, the two heel partners running into each other, or comedy spots from some of the more over the top gimmicks. They really seemed to like all the colorful costumes and characters.

While the showmanship definitely captured their interest, the displays of athleticism and hard hitting moves generated the strongest reactions of the night. I've never heard a louder reaction to a basic top rope cross body. A woman near me yelled "I want to try that!" after one of them. Loud chops, stiff strikes, or running knees that didn't show much light generated reactions like "Holy crap she really hit her!"

During the main event when the heel was cheating to gain an advantage but the babyface was making a comeback, woman near me wearing a fur coat (under 70 degree F is winter in Miami) exclaimed "I get it now!"

As passionate hardcore fans we spend so much time debating which wrestlers are the most talented, which promotion has the best shows, whether booking decisions were good or bad, who deserves a push, who is a draw, etc. It's easy to forget the charm and simple things that made us fans in the first place. Last night I was fortunate to re-experience that through the eyes of hundreds of people all at once.

Pro wrestling is the absolute best.
