man kojima was really going for an end of eva thing with the red nyc stuff at end of mgs2 wasnt he. like maybe I'm just imagining it but it seems like evangelion was hanging over his head for lots of that game

Before MGS2 came out I remember reading articles that Kojima locked himself away like a cloistered monk to write the game. I think that's part of why it's so crazy and ambitious even when compared to other Kojima games.
