I'd like to believe when I see portraits commissioned by the Medicis or the Catholic Church, or sculpture by Rodin for public works in Paris, that at one point or another wealth and luxury somewhat intersected good taste and the arts. I don't think any truly good musicians find themselves running for Senate though. Nor do good businessmen gravitate towards to the presidency. Pretty mixed up world huh. I must have full blown Trump numbness now because the Kid Rock candidacy is just adding to the imaginable unimaginable. Or unimaginable imaginable not sure which.

AkrisD posted:Going back to CRISPR chat and gene-wars, reminds me a lot of one of my favorite scifi books, 'Red Rising,' wherein the rich and powerful are literally genetically superior to the lower class. They turn themselves into basically gods. That's the slippery slope of all this....'Hey need medical care? Ok serve in the military." We already are sort of there I guess.

Glad to see another sack of poo poo in the Trump administration go down but its still too disturbing to feel good about it. I understand American politics are all about 'dirt on my enemy is good for me" and by all means this is dirt on Trump coming next election, but liberals are still a little too satisfied with this stream of incompetency at the WH. I feel like I'm tuning in on personal problems rather than political ones and I think that is exactly the purpose. Because while this all looks bad for Trump, its a part of the long term Bannon-esque goal of decentralizing power away from the office, and in general ushering in a hands-off approach at the federal level. Much like a whining toddler, you don't acknowledge this administration much longer if you actually want it to stop.
