The list of abilities you can get on equipment shown in the Splatfest demo does not have attack or defense up. Thank Judd if those two abilities are not in Splatoon 2 at all.

Neat. The Splatfest power system is back but it places you after you play 7 matches. I wonder if it will be that way in the full game. Edit: you don't get money for winning matches in the demo. You won't be buying gear so it makes sense nothing carries over.

Excited to play the NA test fire tonight. During the global testfire I was dropping from matches or failing to connect constantly whenever on wi-fi. Last night I played on wi-fi the whole time and had no connection issues at all. If the full game feels like that most of the time I'll be thrilled.

It's probably because solo and team matches are part of splatfest scoring and a team that has a solo queue fill would inherently have a communication disadvantage vs a normal 4 stack.

Marina's smile looks nervous at times and if the idea is that she's skilled but not really used to being in the public eye that makes perfect sense and fits her well. From Pearl's dialogue in the Splatfest she seemed nice and full of a fun energy. I think both characters will be great in the full game. My biggest complaint with them is that I feel like their catchphrase is a bit of a mouthful. "Stay fresh!" is both easy to remember and say.

deadwing posted:Up to A- in Rainmaker. That mode rules so much, I didn't play much of it in the first game since I slowed down playing by the time it came out. That was a mistake. Rainmaker is also more interesting in this one since you can't do things like kraken escort the rainmaker straight to the goal. Granted that stopped working at high ranks in the original but at lower ranks you could be quite cheap.

I have played enough Splatoon 1 to know and accept that if I die in the last minute of the match, no matter how far ahead we were, the rest of my team will immediately roll the red carpet out for the enemy and everything will be bad.

"Wow, I don't feel like I'm playing that badly but my team is just not there!" Oh, that's because my entire team disconnected except for me. That does explain it. Has anybody had issues with the pro controller occasionally having input lag in this game? I noticed it a few times while playing Octobrush. I tried testing it in the system's calibration menus and such and detected no problems there.

I had a couple players in my last tower control session who were ignoring the objective but they kept cutting off enemy routes of approach and thus contributed anyway. However I also had a splat zone match last night where all 3 of my teammates just kind of slowly inked things in while I desperately tried to fight by myself.

I'm feeling pretty good about my ranked play right now. It's not common for me to make flashy plays where I wipe the enemy team by myself but I've been working well at cutting off enemy routes, flanking at appropriate times, distracting, and still winning many fights. My splat counts tend to look good but not mindblowing, but I'm making up for that by doing other things in the matches I play that contribute to our chances of victory. Just had a match in rainmaker where we won with only 56 distance by the end. I flanked at the right time and got the rainmaker trapped on a grate and within the last minute the enemy couldn't put together a good plan to go safely get it, and on top of that I controlled ink positioning so if they did get it they'd have a bad route, lowering their chances of an overtime takeover.

Adjusting to Splatoon rules and mechanics again took a little while but after playing a lot of Overwatch in the time between these games I feel like my mechanical skill has improved as well as my sense of positioning and when I should hold my ground vs when I should run away. I used to be pretty bad with all the guns and while I still prefer sloshers/rollers/brushes, I can hold my own usings splattershots and such since my aim isn't trash anymore. Think it also helps that the pro controller default sensitivity feels better to me than the Wii U gamepad did.

Rollers are good newbie weapons vs other newbies who are still feeling out the game flow, but if you play a roller badly good players will punish you for bad positioning and if you miss your kill flicks you won't get a second chance. Rollers are more interesting now with the vertical flick and if you jump out of hiding and do the wrong flick type you're probably dead. Play well and rollers are rewarding. Don't play well and get stomped. 1 more level up until I can have my dynamo and rain splats everywhere.

Just hit B- in Splat Zones so I'm now out of C in all 3 categories. Had a straight win streak of matches in the current rotation. Had a real close one where in the first two minutes the enemy had <10 ticks left for a KO but I managed to flank them with my trislosher and hold the point all the way for a reversal KO. There was player on my team just kinda inking turf and filling in the map so that was a good feeling.

Had a rainmaker match where we were in overtime and had the rainmaker on our side of the map and needed to gain 7 points to win. I died yet it looked like we weren't going to lose yet. Before I could get back to the fight my team somehow pushed ahead against all odds and got the job down. Since this game has its share of "where's my team?" moments it's always nice to get to have a moment where they get the job done without me.

Jarogue posted:Always be on the tower even even if one person is on it. That way you cover each others back and the tower goes faster. To add to this, pay attention to how many members of each team are alive. If you just saw 3 members of the enemy team go down and you have 3 people on the tower getting ahead a bit and inking a path has value too because it also can force the enemy to have to try to take the tower back with suboptimal positioning or waste time inking back to better points of attack. Make sure when you know you're blown you either get back to the tower or try to help win the fight though, you don't want to push too far ahead because you will probably get splatted and the extra work they have to do doesn't make up for the fact that you have to wait to respawn and get back to the fight. If you're still trying to get used to the mode it's fine to just focus on the objective. As you play more you'll get a better sense of what you're doing. Also good general tip for all modes: If you are not actively in a firefight occasionally press x and check the current map state. That will give you helpful info about where the enemy is going to come from and keep you aware of what your team is doing. This is especially helpful when you have the rainmaker and maybe aren't sure where the best/safest looking path is.

You're right that the carbon roller isn't really meant for a fight. What it's meant for is getting the jump on people so there won't be a fight. Focus on your position and practice getting the flick just right in training mode and have fun jumping out a people and splatting them before they know what's happening. edit: beaten to this

Just remember no matter how well you play you will lose sometimes and that the only factor you can control is the quality of your own play, so don't let the things outside your control get to you and focus on what you did well and what you could have done better.
