so back in the 80s hasbro licensed a couple japanese transforming robot toy lines to sell in america and they got marvel to write a bunch of fiction about them that would function as advertisements for the toys and some of the writers wanted to make some of the toys women but hasbro was like "nah little boys will never buy that poo poo" in 2005 one of the writers, simon furman, got hired by IDW to do a rebooted transformers comic series and he continued the "no women robots"* thing because TRADITION and also because he seems like an rear end in a top hat IDW went through several writers after that but they all stuck to the precious continuity in 2012 they got a writer who wanted to be able to write love stories and poo poo but there were no girls* so he was like "yeah whatever gently caress it all the transformers are gay now" *actually there was one exactly girl but she was the result of a mad scientist forcing her to undergo gender re-assignment and the whole thing turned her into a psychopath

in the more recent comics they found a bunch of ancient lost transformers colonies and they all have sexual dimorphism and there's some implication that all the female transformers on cybertron were murdered

All this gets extra silly given Transformers is routinely rebooted all the time and rarely bothers to maintain consistency even within a particular incarnation. With the original show probably being the least consistent of all. Also, isn't there a giant Optimus Prime status somewhere in China?

i think the mad scientist turned arcee into a girl because he wanted the boy robots to gently caress her and make robot babies, and this is backed up by the fact that his boss nova prime was looking for ways to expand the transformer population so he could have a large enough army conquer the galaxy, and because in several transformers stories cybertron's current ecosystem evolved from an organic one and there "used to be more transformers like arcee" in the marvel transformers comics it's established that the transformers have collective amnesia about how they originally reproduced

Basically, how Transformers actually reproduce is different in every single incarnation, and often each one has two or three entirely different means of doing so. Sometimes they're literally built and mass-produced in factories, sometimes they're cloned and grown in vats, sometimes they spring to life spontaneously when a plot device touches any random junk. (Literally) Any random poo poo you come up with is probably true somewhere, though they usually find human reproduction really weird. Also means you have some that are literally born yesterday alongside others who are casually references as being older than the human species. About half the industry still pretends they have a reason to be child-friendly even though children do not know that comics exist. It's a more niche market than Warhammer.
