Literature is everything that isn't genre, but if your literature is lovely and generic enough (eg its about a young girl growing up in *spins dreidel* nazi *spins again* spain with a *spins* overbearing aunt) its also genre ("hallmark books")

I care insanely little about whether there is a literature market or whether we are producing literary content for literary customers, I just want people to read Voltaire and C�line and abhor modern society

Literally nothing. That's the point. The arguments put forth against genre fiction rely on this conceit that literature possesses some intrinsic value outside of entertainment.

Denying the value of art doesn't strengthen your case it makes you look like some hosed up anime weirdo

My problem with "auteur cinema" (I feel dirty just writing those words) is that there's far too many movies where Danish people pretend to have down's syndrome. None of those directors care about plot or entertainment, it's all about gangbangs where goofy looking Nordic dudes act like they're mentally disabled
