School Nickname posted:A bunch of psychologists in the 60s managed to do this and obliterated a convent of nuns in LA in the process. Adam Curtis does embellish it a bit however, claiming that the small group of nuns that remained turned into radical lesbians. I've seen a paper extract that does some better research and claims that the encounter groups the psychologists just opened up an existing conflict between the nuns and the Cardinal at the time. According to wikipedia and google they just went on to form Immaculate Heart Community, which is some sort of non-Vatican religious organization. quote:It was among the first groups of women religious to modernize their rule in accord with the directives of Vatican II. Changes included a more democratic form of governance and replacing their religious attire with civilian dress. Cardinal McIntyre refused to let the sisters teach in archdiocese schools unless they wore habits and adhered to a variety of traditional rules. The sisters, in turn, objected to the Archbishop dictating their attire, bedtimes, and hours of prayer.
