being a proper alcoholic is sort of a super power I guess. going out with the lads on a reunion trying to relive those big nights when you were 18 except now you're all 35 and by ten pints in the rest of them can't hack it, all staggering, chucking up, and calling for taxis. then there's you, cool as anything, still stone sober, contemptuous of their weakness, asking if anyone has a couch you can crash on cos you've got nowhere else to go

thatchers is an OK cider, kinda shameful to be drinking it in the south west but it's OK all the same. i like the haze version fine, although it's a little sweet. thatchers gold is drier and good and refreshing on a sunny day. bottled, the katy single variety stuff and vintage are both deece, although i wouldn't drink more than a bottle or two in one session, gets a bit much in short, if you're going for mass market cider you could certainly do worse. and it's from somerset, not herefordshire, so that's a plus

rattler, now. i'm sure it used to be orange and flat, cos I distinctly remember drinking it like that in a pub in saltash, but these days it's fizzy and fairly clear, which makes sense for a brand that's clearly trying to gain more commercial appeal. still gives you the good old cider confusion and headache though. in fact i don't think I'm ready to talk about rattler just yet now if you want a decent session cider, i like happy daze. it's a wee bit sweet for my taste, but it's a proper cider with a proper fermented apple taste. you can easily drink three before you realise that it's not actually apple juice. try that with old rosie or, even more dangerous, old bristolian. hopefully your mates will fish you out of the canal, although if they've been drinking the same stuff i wouldn't count on it big scary monsters fucked around with this message at 13:42 on Aug 8, 2017 |

id like to open the floor now to general discussion about ciders, what Americans call "hard cider". all are welcome, even outside the sacred cider counties of Cornwall, Devon, Somerset and Herefordshire. scandinavian "cider" and other similar sweet fruity children's drinks are allowable, but please don't come with garbage like strongbow or magners, you're only embarrassing yourself

munich is great and the biergarten are extremely good. the hofbrauhaus is a bit of a tourist trap but still well worth a visit for a morning weisswurst and stein or the singalongs in the evening. if you get bored of the usual beer i recommend switching to weissbier or trying a dunkel (can't guarantee they'll be hangover free though)

fair enough, i love a good weissbier and munich is the definitive home of good weissbier glad you enjoyed it, it's a beautiful and really fun city in general, probably my favourite in germany. i'd love to move there for a year or two. shame the rent is so ridiculous

current drink: rodenbach grand cru it's a really good beer and seems to be one you can get pretty easily outside of dutch speaking countries (rodenbach is owned by palm who are a big belgian brewer/distributor). it's a sour, but it's not very sour. got a rich, fruity taste with a fair bit of sweetness, recommended if you want to try that style for the first time up next is some oude geuze boon, iirc it's a bit more sour but still nothing too serious. also a fun name to say (OW-de ghghghghuhwze bohn) big scary monsters fucked around with this message at 23:42 on Sep 6, 2017 |

gløgg/glögg, glühwein and mulled wine are all pretty similar imo, regional variation seems to be mainly slight differences in which spices you use. also i've seen the heathen nordics use white wine, which is pretty unusual away from the france-bordering parts of germany the versions with added spirits are good too (a proper feuerzangenbowle is awesome), as is mulled cider
