Accurate. I think Civilization was the last thing I liked from them, and I didn't even really like it that much. Cross was on heavy repeat when I'd walk to class in college.

New track slaps though. Generator I mean, the Tame Impala collab is kinda meh. I wonder if they're testing the waters for which direction to take their new stuff based on which track is more popular.

The tame track is also on the album so I think it’s gonna be a mix of both

OPERATIONS vol. 32 is live. I felt like loving with some progressive house and seeing just how challenging it would be mixing together a bunch of very strong melodies. It was fun. As usual, there's a bit of a twist at the end. Enjoy!

I wonder if this will ever see the light of day. They've been broken up for a few years, but it would be a shame if they had a whole album and threw it away. Although the article makes it sounds like it was only in the demo stages and not a fully complete album. Still, I'd love to hear whatever they had cooking.

YO SOY FIESTA

We saw Eric Prydz last night with Cristoph opening for him at Echostage DC. Excellent show, but I think I've realized i cant do EDM shows anymore. Music great, venue great, but man I just can't stand getting jostled so much. If everybody had their own little square to vibe in it would be fine, but I just can't be bumoed and shoved all night.

Related - tried Loops ear plugs for the first time. 10/10, stayed in all night, didn't hurt my ears, no volume soundness in the morning. Definitely recommend.

They already handed out the electronic Grammys and Fred Again won in both categories he was nominated for.

Best Dance/Electronic Recording
Aphex Twin – “Blackbox Life Recorder 21F”
Disclosure – “Higher Than Ever Before”
James Blake – “Loading”
Romy & Fred Again.. – “Strong”
Skrillex, Fred Again.., & Flowdan – “Rumble”

Best Dance/Electronic Album
The Chemical Brothers – For That Beautiful Feeling
James Blake – Playing Robots Into Heaven
Fred Again.. – Actual Life 3 (January 1 – September 9 2022)
Kx5 – Kx5
Skrillex – Quest For Fire

Rumble's a hell of a track but I've gotta be honest: I listened to Actual Life 3 once and remember loving nothing about it lol

e: Oh, Fred was also nominated for Best New Artist but they haven't given that one out yet.

well why not

I was at this show too! Though I got peer pressured into joining my first table at Echostage. Amazing set. Forget HOLO, forget festivals, club Prydz is undefeated.

Like Brooklyn Mirage, Radius Chicago, or any of the other major venues around the world, popular shows will generally see quite a bit of jostling. The only solutions I’ve found is to either stand in the back or go with a group who can maintain a perimeter. Although when you’re dancing with your friends, sometimes you become the jostlers.

I also have Loops, got them almost 2 years ago I think, and they’re great.

At least Fred didn't win Best New Artist :v: That would've been weird anyway, considering he's been releasing his own music since 2019 and been co-writing songs for even longer than that.

Did you see what Phoebe Bridgers said after she won last night? (She's correct)

i kinda hate every song justice have released from this album so far, jeez. miserable filters and now this has a parody of the could heaven ever be like this intro except it misses the best part of that intro, where the last guitar notes are lingering in the air as the beat comes in, replacing that with a lovely glitched skip-forward effect that breaks any continuity between the intro and the rest of the song

also laughing at the youtube comment saying "they're leaving disco behind and are back to electric." the best song on their debut album was a sample flip of an instrumental track from the saturday night fever soundtrack! what the gently caress are you talking about!

every song on Cross is disco iirc. it’s just various levels of distortion on top of that.

huh? I mean I got bad news for you if you think "filters" and "parody" of a sample are anything new in french house ..

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CpjY_-i2S-g <- sampling Change - Miracles

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lPKjlbXHP3E <- or the legendary 2002 "So Much Love to Give" which some blame for popularizing that synth sound and it creeping into edm mainstream

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C3PITulZVSY <- Maxime Singleton - Don't You Love It

french house and sampling (hella tight one at that) go quite hand in hand. daft punk's debut lp homework, listen to the track called "Teachers" - it's literally all shout-outs to the originators of that kind of sound, also heavy-sampling based like Dance Mania for instance in the US.

if you listen to Daft Punk's Essential Mix 1997, they do a hell of a lot of live sampling / play over with 909s etc - as well as drop a track called "Ghetto Shout Out" by Parris Mitchell - which is a track which gives nods to all the Chi projects/areas/blocks and clubs, DJs. this clearly shows with what respect they treat their source material. give this set from 1997 (live) a look as well - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HSgE_m-wjA0 the track that's a chop up of the start of Stevie Wonder's All I Do at 22 minutes itself is a nod imo to Roy Davis Jr. who released a track using that sample just a few months prior to when they played their set.

so all this filter, sampling stuff etc. is integral to the french scene, even though I think it's kind of crappy as to what it has become in terms of sounding pretty predictable. can't take the disco/funk/soul out of french touch producers : p

Came across this and found it interesting, Barclay has surpassed CVS for listeners. Then I started wondering if there are other producers who crossed genres like that and kept the same success.

The Glitch Mob got rid of The Blade :smith: They haven't used it in years, though. When I saw them last year, it was a tiny club setup. No Blade. That seems like what they'll do going forward.

The times I saw them when they were using The Blade were absolutely sick, though. First time I saw them was in 2014 when they were touring for Love Death Immortality and they first introduced The Blade on that tour.

Last year, I went to Arc because they had my top 4 DJs plus a bunch more I liked. It was my first 3 day festival. I knew a bunch of people going as part of a group of 30 and befriended the group and generally had a great time.

HOWEVER, this year’s lineup for Arc just came out and…I kinda hate it? I’m very much a progressive house person with some techno leanings, so Eric Prydz is by far my #1. Azzecca, CDW, Carl Cox, Kaskade, PDM, and Reinier Zonneveld are the only artists I’m interested in seeing. There are a handful more I wouldn’t mind seeing, but none of my top 10 artists are playing.

Normally, I would just cancel my trip and try to resell my ticket, but the same large group from last year is going—Arc has become an annual reunion. I could probably still have a decent time based on vibes, but good vibes can’t overcome music I’m not into, and a $2500 trip is nontrivial.

For comparison, I was gonna go to EDC last year but bailed once the lineup came out; I’m going this year with a lineup that I’m actually enthusiastic about; it will also be my first of the majors.

Alternately, I’m going to Tomorrowland this year. I wasn’t able to get glamping global journey and decided not to try during the worldwide sale after seeing the lineup combined with the low chance of getting glamping. However, a month later, after I had abandoned plans of going this year, a friend offered a basic ticket. I decided to pull the trigger because there’s no guarantee I can get a ticket in the future, and we’ll have a group of 8 going, and TML is supposed to be maximum vibes. The main difference with Arc is that there are a number of my top 10 artists playing, just not Prydz.

I know this is kind of a strange thing to ask about, but as I’m relatively new to festivals, this is the first time I’ve been in this situation so I’m not sure what to do. :smith:
