I think some of the more patriotic scenes would feel off if they were put in an american movie. I am mainly thinking of when they realize they are actually under attack and take off their unit patches and put on the Chinese flag patches.

Universal soldier: day of reckoning is a great action movie and Adkins is pretty awesome in it. The last 15 minutes is pretty batshit.

My wife and I have been going through the older Jackie Chan movies and it is so frustrating that drunken master ii and Police Story 2 aren't available on Prime. Supercop and Project A are available though and both are a ton of fun

Iko seems to do ok speaking English on Wu Assassin which is a pretty ok action series on Netflix. It's not fantastic but has good action scenes and got me through the first week of quarantine

The only time Keysi looked ok on screen was mission impossible 3 when the bomb gets activated in Tom Cruise's head and he is grabbing his head in pain while fighting. And I am not even sure if they were purposely using it or just scripted the fight scene around him being in pain.

So I think what Jackie Chan is really good at is knowing what he is good at when it comes to stunts and fighting/choreographing an awesome scene around it. His really good fights have a flow to them that requires the camera to be zoomed out to have an actual appreciation for what he is doing. Matt Damon might have known the moves and been able to do them well but the Bourne movies were shot in a way where the fast cuts made sense (and even then I don't think they were that bad). Now the taken movies are an example of horrible cuts to make up for the fact that the star is like 90 years old with no fighting experience.

Just watched Seized cause I love Scott Adkins. Definitely recommend it and had some sweet fight scenes. My only complaint with his movies is he really just needs to spend a few days with a firearms instructor, I really don't need him to go full Keanu and I know I am being pretty pedantic but it's generally pretty clear he has no experience with guns. That being said the movie the movie rocks

I love the Raid and Raid 2 and all the other movies done by those stunt teams but Night Comes for Us is just too much and I am just exhausted by the end and not in a good way. I think the Art of Action with Gareth Evans kind of explains his views on violence in movies, he mentions cutting fast away from a horrific injury and that makes the action effective but NCFU just lingers on it and I just don't like it. Which stinks cause the fights scenes are insanely well done.

I wouldn't call it a full action movie but Triple 9 is on Netflix now. Its a pretty bleak cop movie by the director of The Proposition and The Road but has some decent action set pieces and acting.

But the part where Walberg tells a guy "there comes a time in every man's life where he must raise the black flag and start slitting throats" just seemed way too off a grunt style shirt (mainly because they literally sell a shirt that says that) I like Berg and he can shoot action well but he needs to get off the Mark Wahlberg train and make some new stuff.

So far, the second season is a lot more fun, for sure. The first season is kind of more a spy-type thriller with some unexciting to middling gun action, but it's not horrible. On the other hand, the second season doesn't seem to have Jodhi May, so it does have that flaw. I actually haven't seen the first season, I think cinemax calls it Strike Back Origins. After the second season the action really ramps up as well, you can tell they did a ton more training for the guys as well. If you want a pretty good example of what combat pistol training looks like now, watch Stonebridge, the actor does a really really good job with it. The final few seasons with a new cast are pretty good as well but the main characters really don't have the awesome chemistry that Scott and Stonebridge have B-Rock452 fucked around with this message at 22:44 on Feb 20, 2021 |
