I didn't mention it before because it seemed like such a small complaint in comparison, but the "I wish I was born in the 80s" line and variants always bug me because no one wants to be under the age of 10 in their favorite decade. They want to be in their teens or twenties (the time where most generations think is the best decade of their lives) so this is all on Gen X and Boomers, who have forgotten about the terrible boring poo poo in that decade.

No one wants to watch a movie about a guy driving a Ford Escort listening to "Physical" by Olivia Newton John and trying to get home in time to watch 60 minutes. (most popular car/track/tv show of the decade)

Actually, I'd pay to watch this.

Why? Because it's more original and interesting than anything Hollywood has put out since 2008

Ugh. I hate all the modern music. my classmates listen to justin bieber and selena gomez. I only listen to the classics, like Hilary duff and Nickelback. I wish I was born in the 90s.

I've never read the book before, but I'm a bitch for the iron giant because that film was loving rad, and I've wanted a Back to the future part 4 years ago.

So I guess I'm the 1% who actually liked the trailer?

Not the 1%, no. Definitely not just 1%.

You should feel terrible about it, but, yes, "Oh my gosh, I remember and like [thing], so now I like this!" is the reason why this exists and will probably be successful.

I know the trailer's just generating buzz because 80's references, but I do hope there's actually a good story to back all of this up instead of "hey do you remember how cool these things were?"

This is the most pandering bullshit

It's like those movies where they feel compelled to say, "Our hero is a bad rear end.... because he is a Marine!!!" They know they'll immediately get an audience of *ahem* former Marines to go jack each other off in the theater.

Although it's definitely going to be a bad film that I couldn't really give a poo poo about - I am looking forward to some Tron motorbike action and there will probably be a couple of things I find cool on the big screen no doubt.

Of course not, but that's a film that just relied on pop culture references (in that case, arcade video games) as its selling point and nothing else, whereas a film like Who Framed Roger Rabbit had Disney and WB properties but knew how to make them work together in a movie, like putting them in a cartoon world.

This is the movie equivalent of digging up the corpse of Jim Varney and using him as a puppet to say "Hey, Verne!"

Why would kids in the far flung future give a poo poo about "Clarissa Explains It All" again?

Who Framed Roger Rabbit wasn't a pop-culture grab bag, it just used existing properties to tell a coherent story. There's a difference between... Y'know what? No. No, it's fine. Not gonna argue. I know where this is going. You like references? Okay.

I just want you to know, I ain't mad. I ain't ever been mad, and I ain't now. Just look across the river while I tell you about the rabbits again, you hear?

Umm that's not the point I was making.

Roger Rabbit was just a detective mystery story but with cartoons, and adding both characters from WB and Disney was a clever way of adding some concept to the film's story.

it didn't rely on pop culture references, it relied on a single 1/3rd of a script from one of the more forgettable Futurama episodes.
